Walking away from a sale after the buyer has paid for a PPI sounds like it could be construed as fraud. A good PPI on a Porsche ain't cheap, and having a good one in hand can up the value of something like a 996 quite a bit. |

2004 WRX Sedan, Auto, 141K kms, $5000. I know ... auto but still a great CL buy. Might be perfect for the Mrs who doesn't drive stick. https://abbotsford.craigslist.org/ct...309652556.html https://images.craigslist.org/01111_...t2_600x450.jpg |

I don't know where you're getting fraud from, unless you've got something explicitly in writing paying for a ppi didn't entitle you to exclusive rights to buy a vehicle. |

Seriously. A guy says I’ll take it pending a PPI, gets the PPI, tells you ok I’ll see you tomorrow with a bank draft then you sell it that night without a discussion PPI guy, or ignore him and list it higher after spending the night looking at BAT? Too many Jordan Belfort investmenter guys on here apparently. You’re only as good as your word, and we aren’t talking about bending over for someone while they dick you around trying to get loans and wife approval, we are just talking about the time it takes to get a fucking bank draft. |
^ We don't know the whole story. An interested buyer might agree on a price conditional on PPI, then based on report, interested buyer sees a couple of yellow flags (like brake pads need to be replaced, AC needs to be recharged, AM radio not working, etc.), tries to negotiate price down. Seller decides that buyer is wasting his time and says, , "Bye, I have 4 other emails of serious interest and offers, next". In a perfect world, every buyer and seller is reasonable and a person of his/her word but you got some real dicks out there ... both on the buying end and selling end. You gotta look out for yourself. I've done enough now that I think I'm a pretty good judge of character when you meet the interested buyer/seller. But there are no brownie points for being extra nice as seller or buyer to an asshat. Maybe that's why a transaction on here should be a bit more trustworthy ... or FB market where it is attached to an identity in case something goes sour. But CL ... in the wise words of Forrest Gump ... it's like a box of chocolate man. |
I do know the whole story though to be fair. Or at least from the buyers side. He’s a very legit guy and has no issue buying cars. He was ready to buy and seller decided he could get more than asking price. Full on greaseball move. |
Le ouch I mean these aren't bluechip cars. how much more are they selling it for? $1000? Jeez. |
Everyone selling cars now thinks they are a daytrader. Gotta flex them “profits” that can net you 10 tanks of gas on a 7 year ownership that cost you 20k in maintenance. |
My worst auto related selling experience. These guys in Kelowna, always bugging me for info. Constantly picking my brain at work and on my mobile. Over a course of a couple year I sold them 2 engines, fine. Then they wanted the one out of my car, fine. After several confirmations I pull the engine. We have some history so it should be ok, right? They didn't show! At first they said next week, the next wee I can no longer get ahold of either of them, then never again. Saw the one guy at the track a few years later, could not talk to him. Bastards. |

I would say it's pending to guy A, but I'm not going to tell guy B it's sold just so I can end up missing out on selling it to guy B when guy A suddenly disappears. I've had that happen and I'm not dealing with that crap again. |

I’m talking about “ok it checked out, I’ll come pick it up tomorrow.” I don’t know why everyone is trying to create this convoluted scenario where it compares to them being dicked around by their worst buyers. And yeah, telling the person, it’s pending, and if he’s not there by X time it goes to guy B is totally reasonable. That’s not what happened. If it did, yes, guy A would be the issue and it’s his problem. We’re talking about 30k cars, I can’t just go to an atm machine and grab it. Regardless of all this, if a guy gets a PPI on a car I’m selling, I’m at least answering his calls/texts and setting a timeframe with him we need to make it happen that’s feasible. |

If your making 100k a year from work, then whats the point, but if your stuck in your moms basement on minimum wage with 5 cars in tbe driveway, its a no brainer |
last time i paid a ppi and had deposit on hand and ready to get the draft that hour, the seller still wanted to consider a sight-unseen email offer that was 3% more hehe |
^ ...now that's jacked. |
I think it depends on the car. If it's a beige Corolla that you can buy all day everyday sure no rush. But if it's a hot car that doesn't pop up often. Cash is king. You can't really blame the seller, if someone else shows up with cash even after you did a ppi. Unless you put a deposit on it. Simple supply and demand. Usually by the time I am willing to do all the car fax, and ppi is reasonable I'm pretty much taking the car on the spot. I don't want the seller to be driving it around for another week doing burnouts before I pick it up. |
As a seller, who would you choose? 1 - a buyer who paid 20% deposit but pending a PPI 2 - a buyer who is cash ready to sign papers I would inform #1 that the car is sold to #2 and refund the deposit. |
Thats not really relevant because after the PPI is already done and the buyer 1 has offered to buy, the word PENDING no longer has a place in that scenario. |
^ My comment was more general as I didn’t understand or read your specific case. It seems like the seller was greedy and wanted to take a bit more money. To me, that’s a no. Deal is a deal. I love it when someone agreed to a price and when we meet he asks for a discount with no reasons. Everytime I said no or say I will walk away, they magically say ok and shows up with money. |
I think we've gone way off topic here but I think the take away from the discussions on buy/sell ethics and tactics is buy the buyer or seller. Perhaps if we are so inclined, we should start another thread on this debate. |
^ one additional comment about the ethics of buy and sell and then maybe we can change channels. Yes, be aware that there are jerks out there, be cautious and assertive/firm, BUT don't get jaded and end up being one. Still do your transactions with integrity, go by your word, be flexible to a guy you sense is sincere and upright. Do your part not to be like that dick. The majority of transactions I have had are smooth ... I'd say 80-85% go really easy if you are honest with any deficiencies whether it is a car or a chair, and do your research to see comparables and ask for a reasonable price. These last 3 weeks alone, I translated unused stuff in my garage and closet to like >$750 in sales all of which was smooth as silk. And on the buying end, picked up a used car in the last month that I'm really happy with. |
On topic, I kinda want this Big B Body. I'm resisting the urge to call him because I know I'll end up buying it. https://vancouver.craigslist.org/rds...316057790.html And back off topic, I sold my 69 acadian last May when I got laid off due to covid. Guy called me, we basically did the deal over the phone and he was coming over. 10 minutes later my boss called and said come back to work. My word was it, I had to sell it. It was relisted last fall for double and listed again now with no paint. |
https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...5162793197687/ Not sure what the going prices are now a days, but it's pretty rare to see one of these pop up Facelifted Mazda RX-8 R3 trim, appears to be all original. |
