^im pretty sure i know who owns that car.

Besides super obvs stuff on what to look out for on s54's,

-Check for cooling system work at that mileage, hoses, waterpump etc. they usually shit the bed at 200k.
-Check all the bushings and suspension components. Purposely drive over sewers or small cracks/bumps on the road to see if the suspension feels ok. Make sure it doesnt swing side to side over bumps or clunking noise, the usual crap
-Fuel level sender tends to get sticky in summer time. make sure the gas gauge is accurate. Sometimes when its too hot it displays w.e it wants to intermittently and then goes back to normal. That's an early sign of on its way out
-Make sure all windows close and function well. Open and shut the door (with the windows rolled up) with the top up AND top down. Make sure the windows dont do anything funny on either doors.

$5 the odo has been rolled.

GIZZ 08-06-2021 03:46 PM

The black SIR is a local BC car. It was seized on a warehouse lien last month from an owner that was not the original, so it's not a 1 owner car. There is an outstanding airbag recall. Last dealer record is 43K kms in 2002. The odometer digits don't line up like they should, you're probably right about the roll back.

I'd be tempted to check it out, buy if it's clean and try to flip on BAT.

Bat guys would spend an entire weekend of their time and money investigating the dirt under the car, just to say theres something wrong with the car

As much as i love having that website as my homepage, the comment section makes me vomit from the amount of stupidity and anal-ness of lurkers that cant afford em

That said, you buy it, post it, and i will ghost bid against the other bidders to get you top dollar :troll:

GIZZ 08-06-2021 04:11 PM

I just noticed the sunroof switch is on the wrong side of the mirror switch, that's strange.

Did you see the 22K black 1st gen crx that just sold on BAT? Seller here in richmond sold it to a guy in the states, there is an outstanding obsolete recall on the car. The new owner won't be able to regi it, maybe not even be able to get imported. The seller is shady and F@#$ saying to problem for anybody out of canada to buy and register that car, it's impossible for a driver unless the recall can be completed. Otherwise it's a racecar or display only. And this one bidder "Grewal" was bidding it up by thousands a few times where everyone else was bidding up hundreds. Total scam. I'm still up in that car's comment section waiting to see what happens with it.

GIZZ 08-06-2021 04:12 PM

but ya, I'll check it out tomorrow!

I call BS. There is no way in hell an SIR is this cheap with pandemic pricing... Even pre-pandemic, one with a rebuilt title and a higher odometer reading would have sold for around that price...

That 99 civic in Burnaby. They listed the thing in the afternoon, the first guy says to get ahold of these 2 other guys. No response, then I get "we're closed". While waiting I paid for the icbc search, minor $700 damage. Way later at 11:45pm he texts me it's sold.

Not before I did some digging. Early on it was owned by an Japanese woman just off of main street. Fast forward, the owner is now a 79 year old retired Richmond school principal, named Ron Bain. Ron died in May 2019, his address building Center Point on Lansdowne may be correct but the unit number doesn't exist. He was survived by his wife Lucy and his family but I guess they either couldn't contact them due to the address error or somebody changed the icbc contact info. Either way it racked up $7823.84 in charges and the car just changed hands on a warehouseman's lien.

The dealer is still closed and the 3 contacts haven't replied to me yet this morning to confirm it is in fact sold. The car looked minty in the other pics, the only issue I would have had to try to clear up was the carfax mileage discrepancy.

GIZZ 08-07-2021 09:43 AM

wtf Busters towing sold 16 cars by silent auction that day. Some of the others, 2018 audi Q5, 2018 Nissan Leaf, 2021 KTM 350ex. I swear some of these people in vancouver park the cars they don't drive and they wouldn't know if they went missing.

Or like this link my buddy sent me.
https://www.inquirer.com/news/towing...gpPMrQaRQlnmbw
They were doing in on the west side about 10 years back, people had to walk all around their neighbourhood to see where a tow truck relocated it.

So the dealer salesguy texts me at 11:45 pm Fri night saying sold but then never replied after that, I watched the marketplace ad switch from available to sold half a dozen times before the dealer opened. I still called as soon as they opened. Guy says it's here, nobody has seen it, and come right down. I asked about carfax mileage discrepancy and he said it had a $15000 hit in 2002. This didn't show up on my ICBC search, must have had private insurance? I had to see for myself, I was hoping it was a theft recovery and new engine/trans/cluster. I had the original block id# to compare with incase the vin tag was missing. I showed up half hour after opening and they told me the car just drove off. I guess I was just too slow. But these guys kinda suck at customer service, had he not told me sold at 11:45 the night before I would have been there 10 min before opening Sat morn.

Why would an outstanding recall matter on a car that old? JDM imports aren't being checked for missed recalls.

Right now definitely. Tons of cars are sitting around right now. If my Jeep wasn't sitting in my driveway I probably wouldn't know if it wandered off either.

trollface 08-08-2021 08:51 AM

You guys have so many cars and space you won't notice if a 3500lb object disspears?

GIZZ 08-08-2021 09:02 AM

The RIV rules are pretty clear bringing a car into canada. Yes, older than 15 years they aren't looking.

Selling a car to the states, I can never find info. If older than 25 years old it doesn't need to meet dot requirements but there's no mention of recalls. And also no mention of exemptions when you search recalls and importation into usa. Every state and probably whoever you encounter at the state dmv might have something to say. Risky.

18,000 KM 1st Gen RL - $8,500

^ It’s an absolute tragedy that car has any marks on it at all… that’s significant repaint work and a really tough colour match

JDMDreams 08-10-2021 12:32 PM

^ I know ppl love the old RL and legend but I never liked the look of them, they just scream boring old man car. And do they have tranny issues?

GIZZ 08-10-2021 12:43 PM

Car is a nightmare. It will have dumb oil leaks, hard to work on, lots of obsolete parts.

I'd take it for free, which is probably how that guy got the car.

Love how the first line on the ad is "car is mint" then goes to post all the marks on the rear bumper and the huge rusted dent on the trunk lid.

It’s listed at about the same price as it was three months ago, which is probably because of all those issues. One look at the maintenance bill = sell. Anything with rubber seals will probably need to be replaced, since it’s a senior-driven low-mileage Honda from the 90’s. Ask me how I know :crybaby:
