My bad... I swear I read somewhere that it was still 2T when I was shopping last summer

as for that E36... @westopher yup.. I saw that carbon gauge surround and knew it definitely was a late 90's / early 00's mom-gave-me-her-E36-as-my-first-car kinda build :D at least it's pretty tasteful, and you can tell it was cared for haha.

Nice fun commuter ... just the super rare factor that these are hardly ever for sale. Next time may be when the next total solar eclipse happens. I know the mileage is high but use as negotiating to lower price? This ISN'T the CL good buy anyways ...

2008 CSX type S - 303K kms, $8500.

68style 09-15-2021 08:24 PM

^ THAT PRICE IS INSANE for that car! Negotiation is one thing, but does he want to be offered half of his ask? I'd be surprised if it sold for even $4500

High mileage 200k+ Si equivalents have been posted on this thread as low as $3800

trollface 09-15-2021 08:31 PM

Why not just buy an SI or RSX s at this point.

Mos def... you could get a very decent RSX-S for that quite easily and that car is borderline at the point where it's edging into collectability time.

whitev70r 09-15-2021 08:37 PM

Yah, not disagreeing with you but I just checked and there are hardly any Civic Si's in that late 2000's gen nor are there any RSX type S that's really decent. I was shocked at the lack of postings ... Covid tax and Covid used car rage is real! Find me something that is in that gen.

I'm sure a die hard CSX type S fan could justify paying that much, oddly enough Blackbook values that car around $8700.

Yet a 2007 bmw 328i with 120k KM is just $7300.

That being said I probably would bet a 3 series BMW with 120k KM would be the better pick than an Acura CSX Type-S with 300k+ KMs for the same price

twitchyzero 09-16-2021 08:20 AM

you have to remember csx-s is getting quite unicorn being canada-only
but i too would get the Si

whitev70r 09-16-2021 10:14 AM

I could prob find 10 cars better for that price range that I'd buy instead but the unicorn tax on that, I think, is really high. Even a CSX type S fan might not touch with a ten foot pole at that high mileage. Civic SI sedans are rare too. This feels a little like the interest in a Civic SiR hatch maybe 5-10 years ago. Great 1st vehicle to learn stick. This one is a 4 dr practical. I'd offer $5K

tofu1413 09-16-2021 12:07 PM

holy. 8700.......

and i thought the aircooled tax was ridiculous.

68style 09-16-2021 07:56 PM

I jsut couldn’t do it, unicorn or not… Honda engine or not… that thing is done at that mileage… rebuild/refresh at a minimum coming soon to a garage near you. Why bother? Overpay for a 100k example with patience.

It wasn't too long ago when you could get one with less than half the mileage for ~$9500. There is covid tax, and then there is just plain ridiculous. Unless if you REALLY want a CSX-S right now, it's a hard pass ..

Not sure about that. Early model N52 iirc. Ewater pump, etc you name it. Chances are, if it's made it to 300K kms, it's probably pretty good.

I have over 300K kms on my E36 M3. Aside from gaskets and the ignition coil, it's running strong. Most likely attributed to all the maintenance over the years that's gotten it to live that long.

I'm a BMW fan, but an early model E90, let alone a 328i isn't worth shit. The CSX-S is really priced on rarity, like everything else lately.

whitev70r 09-17-2021 06:18 AM

^ impressive find. Just posted 12 hrs. Hands down, this is >>>>> than the 300K kms one. In fact, this one is actually interesting if you were in the market for one.

tofu1413 09-17-2021 08:22 AM

looks well used and almost close to neglect.

look at those smashed fog lights..... running on winters too.....

Feels like gonna need 3k of work to be in tip top shape.

whitev70r 09-17-2021 08:28 AM

^ good eye ... I budget at least $1000 for a used cars to bring it to stage 0. This one might require a little bit more, hey?

tofu1413 09-17-2021 08:39 AM

Probably.

under carriage might have some surface rust too.

and a car with 250k km+ - sway bar end links, ball joints etc will bound to need attention. engine mounts too..... wheel bearings?

probably ac doesnt work either. it does add up......

(bought enough beaters to know)

And thats where buying a 300k + BMW Beater isnt a bad thing..... because half of the crap on the car will be replaced by then to keep it going.

Gerbs 09-17-2021 08:51 AM

Does anyone have suggestions on what fun car to get after RSX Type S? I had the CSX Type S prior. Budget is sub $10 - 12K.

This car would only be used from Oct to March/April until the summer car gets insured again.

I didn't find the RSX / CSX fun because you can't really vtec in the rain plus handling is okay. Not need extra back seats either.

whitev70r 09-17-2021 09:06 AM

What about a Subie Forester XT, Outback XT, or WRX hatch? Sounds like a winter vehicle so AWD might be handy?

Back seats come extra on these!

If no backseat, I can only think of maybe an A5 coupe quattro? The S5 is out of your price range.

I doubt the first one is actually an XT, either uninformed seller or he meant to deceive as no pics of the trunk denoting trim, and no scoop.

tofu1413 09-17-2021 09:32 AM

Lately been eyeing the volvo and saabs.

they are great for defensive driving and built like tanks. shittiest driving months of the year, bound to get into a fender bender... so might as well drive a tank to keep your self injury free in event of a collision.

TypeRNammer 09-17-2021 11:13 AM

It's not everyday you see a WRB Forester for sale.

One hell of a unicorn, minus the automatic transmission

I don't care if it's auto. It has under 200k and not a bad price with apparent full service history. I'd buy it if I had space (or passion for cars anymore)...

Unless it's fake, then I give up
