I see the appeal with the bumper, Volks, and of course LHD separates it big time
the Infinitis dont have stick option and not solid axles
this has the cachet of landcruiser 80 series while being a touch more modern

Doesn't look like the Mazda rust has taken over it yet, definitely do the part to protect the undercarriage and quarters !

It's too bad it's a GS model rather than the GT. Kinda like those GT options.

Usually the issues for the GS 450h arrives from whether if its got the optional air suspension package and/or it's active rear suspension. It actually has a pretty neat system where it can basically stiffen and loosen the rear roll bar depending on what the car is doing. It's a jank looking system though. |

Owners must be hiding them in garages. Rarely see any on streets and good ones arent ever for sale. | I am a big BMW fan, but I don't get the hype of the E46 M3. It doesn't look that good compared to earlier or later BMWs. Also appears to be slower or on par with a Kia Stinger.
Can someone explain the appeal of spending a lot of money for a car that doesn't look good or perform well?

Someone’s mentioned before that the manual shifting experience in these cars isn’t very “fun”.

I'd have to say it is unfair to look at the E46 M3 under eye of today's performance levels.
When it came out back in late 2000, the S54 was considered to be very high performance. 330+hp, 8k redline, with an inline 6 soundtrack that screams out a crazy wild wail. As a matter of fact, I'd say that the S54 was pretty much as much power as BMW can squeeze out of an NA inline 6.
While I liked the E36 bodies more, the E46 bodies looked classier and more upscale. I am not at all a fan of the E90 body style -- the car has gotten too big by then as well.
And then of course there is the beautiful BMW balance. IMO, it was the last perfectly balanced BMW that has been made -- the later cars became a bit too porky, and to make up for that porkiness, power has been dialed up to much. I'm not saying power is bad. But with that shift towards higher hp, the balance got lost. (The 128i had a lot of the E46's beautiful balance and neutrality as well, but its engine is too underpowered.) Quote:

Can someone explain the appeal of spending a lot of money for a car that doesn't look good or perform well? | It's a 100hp/L NA straight 6. Arguably the best motor BMW has ever made, looks are subjective, and it competed with cars double its price in its time. I get not wanting one, but it shouldn't be absurd to understand the appeal. It's one of the best BMWs ever produced, objectively.
