A brand new one is only 45k. I saw similar cars sell for 36-37k during the start of the vid. I was waiting to see if there was going to be a wave of people defaulting on loans.

BOY WAS I WRONG.

It's exactly the same situation with those Caymans I am looking at. A brand new bare bones car starts at $67k, but then you have these base models with a few options -- mostly with things that I don't particularly care for -- with mileage up to 40k+ km, and they are asking for something in the high $70k's.

I'm like... huh...?

I got off the phone with a salesman that had a Golf R with no price today.

I asked him how much (2018, 40,000km).

Him "47,500"
Me "Wow"
Him "You sound little surprised, where do you need to be at?"
Me "A new one is 45k, I should just buy a new one and save money."

on another note, I just picked up a mk7 Golf R for myself...... gonna "pick it up" end of the week :lawl:

Gerbs 11-08-2021 03:39 PM

How does buying new right now?

Hondaracer 11-08-2021 03:46 PM

That chip shortage is fucked..

A family friend just bought a pair of brand new ski-doo sleds, like top of the line 13k or so each. They are coming with no gauges.. and there’s no timeline to get the gauges due to chip shortage..

Wow back up, your telling me you found an ad online, from a dealer, that has no price?!?!?

Nothing grinds my gears like men in suits that dont post a price, so they can fish as many phone numbers as possible.

It could be that it's so new it hasn't been priced out by the manager or admin or whoever sets the used car pricing. That's how I found my Allroad wagon - they put the listing on Autotrader "hidden" with no pricing and a couple of photos as a placeholder, but I walked in and surprised them asking for the price lol. :concentrate:

Yes, it was listed on FB marketplace 5 days ago. I saw the same ad posted by two separate salespeople (I know this do this which is fine), but none of them had the price so I had to call in.

The car was the exact spec I wanted so I was willing to jump through some hoops to find out.

I just looked it up and they added a price. Inflation is out of control, the car was $47k at 10am, it's now $49k.

Here is an ad on CL, looks to be the same car with no price:

One looks like it's being sold by Kia and the other a used car lot? Not sure what's going on here.

There was a spektrum, green, one for $41K iirc around July of last year when I made that thread. I remember thinking 41K, damn that's expensive.

Isn't Blue/DSG/performance a dime a dozen?

tofu1413 11-08-2021 06:42 PM

Oh man.

Kia west…. Heard many stories and it’s the Wild West there. :lawl:

They are, but everyone just wants insane money for them. Guess I'll wait another year...

Matsuda 11-08-2021 07:14 PM

damn..I should sell my Golf R ;)

radeonboy 11-08-2021 07:36 PM

There was a Prussian Blue Golf R at OpenRoad VW listed this August for around $38k, had low mileage (~30k I want to say) and was available for a short while. But with inventory being tight right now it may be a while before prices start cooling again unfortunately.

I saw a hot chili pearl Golf R in Richmond the other day... exactly the colour I would have picked if I was ordering one new and paying for the custom colour... looked beautiful... not sure if it was manual or auto but even just seeing one in real life made my pants happy for a bit :) I'm not even a fan of red but for some reason I really like this shade on the Golf R...

It's this colour:

That's a wonderful color damn.

Burgundy?

Why would Golf R demand such high prices? Isn’t S3 the same thing and used S3 are about $35k.

320icar 11-08-2021 10:58 PM

$2300 cooper S. could be a fantastic winter beater for someone. Brakes could be as simple as a bleed. And it’s manual too

Enthusiast tax I think? I think more people bought the golf r cause it was cheaper. Plus hatchback. Maybe because the S3 is just a S line car where as the Golf R, is the R model. Or alternatively everyone grew up wanting the R32 Golf, so they bought the Golf R

So brief research shows that the S3 doesn't have adaptive cruise control. And I primarily was looking in a golf r because apparently VW has pretty solid lane keep systems.

I prefer the Golf R interior over the S3 interior tho. I hate stick on tablets... Ugh.

Manual transmission is a plus for the Golf R, but idk how that works with lane keep and active cruise control

Pretty decent winter beater, has the Toyota 1ZZFE drivetrain manual transmission and comes with snow tires... seems to have a few bumps and bruises but a super low price for this car... also sweet autocorrect on the model name lol!:

The S3 is a lot "softer" in a lot of ways. It's much more of a lux car than a "sports" car.

Are you sure about that? I could have sworn that they used a 1.8 ecotec where-as the Vibe was a Toyota Matrix clone.
