I thought these cars had standard GM Ecotecs. The Vibe had the 1ZZ from the Matrix.

Golf R is a bit more "playful" chassis dynamics wise.

And the fact that its a 5 door hatch makes it a mini wagon - a jack of all trades kind of car just like the FK8 Civic type R's

S3 is a bit quieter inside and the interior design is fancier, plus the B&O audio is fantastic. the tactile controls are a tad nicer and the power folding MMI screen is a very nice touch. The trunk though, is annoyingly shallow probably because of the AWD equipment.

Golf R demand is higher because it simply just works "better" as a car for daily use.

I think you're thinking of the Vibe.

I've always liked how the 3-door Astra of this generation looked. It's too bad GM cheaped out as much as possible on the NA-spec version.

I remember when Saturn was discontinued and they were selling these remaining Astras for $10-11K new. I was in my undergrad and was quite tempted.

twitchyzero 11-09-2021 11:34 AM

just my shitty opinion but if i were set on a german saloon it has to look stately & confident. if it has to be compact needs different body panels from base model like a widebody not a stubby thing with just a wang/different wheels (think 1m not s3 nor cla45)

golf r is at least a clean design that will age better and you immediately think sleeper hot hatch

Well it looks like I won't be buying jack for the next year.

The car went from 47,500 to 50k and a salesperson just offered it to me for 46k, the exact same price as a new one.

Who is paying new car prices on a used car with 30k on it?

WHO?

At this point, they're just playing games and are looking for suckers who are impatient. I keep seeing year old Teslas and PHEV's with 5 figure mileages for MSRP... No idea what kind of sucker would buy a USED EV/PHEV with no incentives at MSRP.

I probably wouldn't get a car now unless if you really need one or can get one at MSRP. This market is insane.

donk. 11-09-2021 01:48 PM

Supply and demand.......

My coworker went to buy a new truck, they said its 4 years before it arrives due to the waitlist/shortages

He was not interested in waiting so bought a 2020 with milage for the same price as a "newunavailable".
Not to mention, he said x options were no longer available, manufacturers are scrapping touch screens, etc

At the current pace of things, next year his truck will be worth another 10k

The car market, is turning into the real estate market. Who would ever pay 500k for a 1bed, 45 year old building :troll:

tofu1413 11-09-2021 01:56 PM

yeah, seems like 2022MY cars got nerf'ed alot of options.

The craziest part is the 3/4/5/X3/X5/X7 not coming with touch screens for the iDrive 7 system. You have to use the knob only!

I wouldn't mind a rwd manual 5 series with no I drive  :lawl:

Had to do some car shopping recently due to my dad's totalled car and gotta agree, the prices nowadays are absolutely bonkers for anything that is even slightly desirable. The insanity is much worse stateside for larger SUVs or trucks. Personally, we decided to import from Japan instead since at least the regular cars there haven't appreciated as much.

Porsche would just call it "weight savings" and charge you more!

tofu1413 11-09-2021 08:15 PM

“Less is more” - Porsche taking notes rn probably

gurdeep007 11-10-2021 06:22 AM

Any thoughts on how long this shortage will last and how long these insane used car prices will last?

westopher 11-10-2021 06:55 AM

When people stop paying extra money for vehicles the problem will magically be fixed. Until then, “supply chain issues” will just keep costs high indefinitely.
Kind of like when there’s a pipeline issue, gas prices go up. When it gets fixed gas is still up.

SkunkWorks 11-10-2021 07:31 AM

Meanwhile all I've received on the cars I'm selling are lowballs :okay:

So are MY2022 cars being sold with IOU a key, a touch screen, etc?

I can see people trying to replace totalled cars having a lot of difficulty getting a replacement immediately. For those on a lease, the dealer can just extend the lease.

Yeah, unfortunately every single one can get rusty under there. Just keep them on, ignorance is bliss LOL.

What is nice is that each flare has a hose sized drain / inspection hole (that tends to clog up if not cleaned regularly), I usually shoot the hose up in there on mine to clean out the dirt every wash.

They will last as long as possible.

Aka, even if there is no supply issue, they will keep pretending there is one so they can milk every dollar from you. Prices rarely go down, only up.

Nope, you get what you get. BMW is providing a $500 "credit" for those models without touch screen. Retrofitting one might be possible in the future but it will be at your own cost. Same with the keys.

This is why I was glad to get a 2021 model car lol.

MY2022 Civic's originally came with 1.5 keys (Fob w/key + key)

Comes down to you want a key or a whole car? LOL
