^ i read it and its like....

M156 6.2 AMG ... head bolts, I am not sure how common it is really tbh, but one common thing I found was that I had a hard time finding a specialty shop locally that would do the head bolt swap even if you were willing to pay out of pocket. So, it's a gamble? That quickly quash my dream of trying to own a C63, I cant afford a post 2009 M156 hahaha....

IMS bearing issue for Porsche, again... not sure how common it is really, maybe just like the AMG engine, it is blown out of proportions. But one of my best friends, 997.1 base carrera had the IMS bearing go, car was well under 100kkm.... yea....

I'm just poor hahaha, so I guess I will stick with my JDM for now lolol

That’s one of the dumbest things I have ever seen in the world of car purchasing.

68style 12-19-2021 03:25 PM

Haha if you read the comments it appears the dealership that originally sold it bought it to put in their showroom

Not to mention that 997.1 issues are not just the IMS but bore scoring...which is not a matter of if it's going to happen but when it's going to happen. And fix for that is anywhere between 20-30K. One of the least talked about issues with 997.1 gen. Every second PPI turns up bore scoring at least in cylinders 6 and 5. Learned the hard way...

Not just 997.1's.
986 Boxster S and Cayman S's also suffer from this issue.

Non S's don't have this issue but they are also missing quite a few ponies.

twitchyzero 12-20-2021 02:53 PM

same family of engines so is it a production issue? or just that the non-S has more safety headroom/tolerance, possibly owners dont drive them as hard?

bcrdukes 12-20-2021 03:08 PM

same / similar family of engines (M96/M97)

in my experience, it's a bit over blown but it is what it is. On my second Porsche and no issues.

TjAlmeida 12-20-2021 03:49 PM

Seems like a lot of the bore scoring issues are related to driving it hard while still cold, the IMS can be resolved with the ‘solution’. Also to add to the list is oil stability if there are track days planned for the car, seems like high G corners result in oil pressure drops.

The headbolt issue is way overblown. The actual failure rate is much lower than 996 IMS bearing for example. Mercedes Richmond told me they could do updated headbolts for ~$3000. However, they said that there is no reason to do it if there is no problem. The key warning sign is low coolant level.

How can those seats look so perfect at 300,000kms... wow...

SpeedStars 12-23-2021 03:25 PM

Must be a skinner fellow who wears silk pants. Ive seen cars with 40k kms and a busted seat from chunky dudes who wear biker jeans that have a bazillion buttons on them

2009 BMW 335i LCI w/ 6 speed manual and over 200k kms. $5000. I see its missing some hood insulation, but this is E46 money. Would either be a terrific deal or a complete money pit. I suspect its probably the latter.

whitev70r 12-24-2021 07:19 AM

Used BMW and terrific deal ... is an oxymoron. So chances are, your gut instinct and suspicion are absolutely right.

1 power lock = $3000
1 right head light projector housing = $2000

Not to mention that that gen BMW is bland as hell.

JDMDreams 12-24-2021 07:24 AM

$3000???????? For a power lock??????? :rukidding:

!Aznboi128 12-24-2021 09:03 AM

I thought e90 335 were notoriously bad, turbos go, seals disintegrate.
