The NC's stock 2.0L engine responses really well to a header upgrade regardless of whether it is a catted or catless design. However, the NA (naturally aspirated) 2.5L swap is definitely the best bang for the buck upgrade for it. During the 2.5L swap upgrade, if you also do a large diameter header upgrade, hot cam switch, and (mandatory) ECU tune, both the torque and hp gain will be quite healthy. I think 170-ish whp + 170-ish tq is quite do-able?

Between the 1st gen 86, NB, and NC, I'd say the 86 and NC are the better bets. The NB was a good car, but at this point, it is really getting a little long in the tooth. For the amount of money that you'll be spending, you can get a lot more power and speed from the NC / 86 for a little more money. The NC is more nimble than the 86, and it has both the benefits and the woes of a convertible. The 86 has a better top end and stronger aftermarket support, but that doesn't mean NC aftermarket support is lacking in any way.

Anything market is very dry, $7000 for your rebuilt car, $13000 for 250k Kms

i dont know if 86 top end is worth mentioning haha

but if this is something you'll part ways down the road, the 86 has the better chance of not losing a penny

a lot more owners leave NC stock, 86 typically gets modified and by quite a bit..clean examples are going to be dwindling within a few years

The NB is also known to have issues with rotting frame rails so I'd avoid those, especially if they were east coast cars. I'd go NC because you could get it as a retractable hardtop or soft top. I'm on the hunt for one atm. Shame NC1s are now high teens or low 20s with covid tax. 86 has a fine chassis but the engine sounds a little uninspiring to my ears.

True that, Good Car Bad Car has Canadian sales numbers to back that up. I added last generation of BRZ and 86 sales and looks like there is just under 23,500 made for the Canadian market. We still have to factor out the automatic 86 twins so the actual desirable combinations will be far less.

BRZ: https://www.goodcarbadcar.net/subaru-brz-sales-figures/
FRS/GT86: https://www.goodcarbadcar.net/scion-fr-s-sales-figures/

CNET article says the take transmission take rate is as follows. This is for the US market though. https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/review...u-brz-preview/

Quote:
Subaru says the BRZ has a 75% take rate for the manual transmission, which actually might be one of if not the highest in the US auto industry (for cars that offer both gearbox types, natch). Interestingly, with the Toyota 86, the take rate is only 46%, and with the Mazda MX-5 Miata, it's 58%.
Just speculating, but I highly doubt an 86/BRZ in decent condition (not rebuilt, minimal accident history, <200k km, and stock) will fall below 10k. There are no vehicles in that price point which are engaging to drive. The new generation units are 30k plus tax, pdi, and fees so the minimum entry fee to get one is 36k. Depending on how the new ZN8 86/BRZ sells, I think they will force the second hand market pricing of the first gen units lower, but not by much.

^ I don't know if I've seen an uglier convertible (Murano). Whoever buys that and drives around in it says a lot about their hideous taste!

To be completely fair, the only people I've seen driving a Murano vert were probably ages 40+ (and surprisingly) attractive women.

^ yah, is there an unspoken rule about how much you're allowed to ask for a car ... or a house for that matter ... over what you paid? If you lived by this principle ... everyone who sells a house in YVR is a POS. Let the free market dictate it. If someone wants to pay asking price ... let him. What's that to anyone else?

doesn't work in such a closed community

in this case both this car (and the one he flipped last month - was a CL goodbuy 328is on here) are both known to be in WAY worse shape than they are described by the seller.

ask whatever you want - for sure let the market decide, but don't try to manipulate it.. be honest with the condition of the car. this whole thing just reads like a kid trying his hand at curbing and picking the wrong market to do that in. i don't think he's a scumbag at all, but I think his hustle of choice is wrong.

the community is wayyyy too small to get away with anything. this car is all over FB and the chats now.

ya - if you're selling a house, and presenting it as market value but it's actually a desperate fixer upper - it won't take long for the word to get out about it. that's kind of what's happening here.

somebody will probably over pay for it tho - there's a sucker everywhere these days.

if you can't even keep it for 6 months, it's pretty shitty (unless you're in a pinch for funeral/medical expenses, vet bill etc.)

The ad says 'unexpected life circumstances force sale'.

Most people who write that will sell for a good price because they need it gone and need the money too. Very very few people would sell for almost double what they bought it for.
