That ad seems funky, someone had to fuck up bad for the engine to need a rebuild at 100k. Then the seller claims to have put $20k+ into it but doesn't specify what was actually done, nor does he specify what it currently needs.
Assuming everything looks clean I'd offer something like $4k cash, sell the stupid microtech and go back to a stock EMS.

Scarily enough, Rocky Mtn Westy touched vehicles do command that much. VW Bus/Van prices are insane. I wouldn't call that a 'good buy', but I would say that is market pricing.

Great question! I'm not well informed on them, just what I've picked up here and there. I pay little attention to the Vanagons, simply due to the price. I dip in and out occasionally, to look at the swap information as I'm considering different engine options for my 1968 Single Cab.
A stock Wasserboxer-equipped Vanagon, in top maintenance condition will go 70-75mph all day. The problem is heads. If you don't use VW's specified coolant (and many people don't) the heads leak, you blame VW for building a horrible engine and blow it up. Many have died this way. Most wasserboxers haven't been meticulously maintained, and so 60-65mph seems to be the average max speed without blowing them up. Tossing in a full Subaru conversion and finding 80mph has your cruising speed with no fears of engine explosion must be fantastic.
The thing is, Rocky Mtn Westy lifts them all and puts AT-Grabber or BFG KO2's on them. They might cruise down the highway great, and get you into some nice campsites, but you're not going to be cornering very quickly.
thanks for the info. from what you are saying it is cost that makes these uncommon. i guess us poor folk will stay with mitsubishi delicas instead.

Reading through that ad, my first thought was wife/GF/significant other has said he needs to sell the car, so he's posted it up "for sale"...but then I hit the rig-worker part. I dunno what those guys are doing up there, but I see this sort of crap from some of my friends who work there as well. Always complaining about needing to sell this or that, or move here or there, but never putting anything more than 20% into doing whatever they're complaining about.

If not for the shitty currency this would be a sweet deal. Talked to the seller timing belt /water pump were replaced ahead of its maintenance schedule .
He doesn't know about the "snap ring" range (transmission problem) so I ask him to give me the transcode and luckily it's not affected Transcode is j4a4-1003456 "snap ring" range is between 3542-5978

Pssssshhh ferry costs. Totally worth it, go for it!
WTF this car is $11,000 now and they are "Taking offers." I would guess it failed inspection and the seller just wants to get rid of it.
I've seen this M3 re-listed 3-4 times over the past few months. Always awful pictures and poorly written ad. I also recall the drivers door is a different colour.
I just e-mailed him. We'll see what he has to say about it. I have always wanted a 6 speed E46. It's hard to say no at that price. (If it's just the door that need replacing)
