Pretty sure lady did her research and figure it was not worth it to fix. Most likely engine or tranny. Mechanics special.
Apparently not if it was priced low enough to have that many people scrambling to buy it. The engines and trans in those are junk but a quick search had the cheapest JKU I found was $14k and it didn't look as clean as hers was.

That estorial 330 has been for sale for what seems like 3 months and just got relisted with a few new pics. Could be a great daily if sorted, would also want to make sure it was replaced with the correct motor.

Super tempted as I've a 5 speed swap for it too...
They are just nades. I was researching e60 m5 basically everything is just waiting to explode. All big ticket items are like $5000 a pop. When you design a car and bearings are consumables
It looks well sorted but maybe our resident BMW gurus can offer their sagely wisdom on things to look out for at this mileage. My interest is certainly piqued at this price point but I would rather buy cdizzle's C63 for 5K more so my wife could get behind the wheel as well. The money will probably be spent on some home improvements in reality instead but one can dream.

An e60 m5 isn't an e92 m3.
One is the worst M car BMW has ever made, and one is one of the best.
e9x m3s are expensive, it can be a big deal if you buy the wrong car, or can be fine if you stay on top of things. If you get a car thats $3500 in maintenance very year and that hasn't been done for 7 years you can see how it becomes a big problem.

I can't remember the exact reason or terminology, but I believe 2008 is the worst year to buy because if your clutch goes out you have to upgrade all the components to the updated 2009 versions.
That said, in today's market, that M3 is a steal. Similar mileage E46 M3's are going for way more. 28.5K at that mileage was August/September 2020 pricing for E46 M3, for reference.
