No it’s almost impossible to fail on a well maintained stock car, but no cats is automatic fail.

If anyone is serious, I wonder if it can be negotiated that seller goes and gets Provincial inspection done (and passed) before purchase. That way, you're not stuck with putting all the OEM parts back on to do it if it won't pass. If seller is willing, one of the good deals on CL lately. That's a lot of car, upgrades, and accessories for $40K and extended warranty to boot.
This will eat any Golf R for lunch!

Now that looks like precision crafted performance, not that poor excuse of an integra they just released

I love that style Legend.. this one would be fairly priced if it had no faults... but between mileage and rust and stuff not working... pass at that price point

Super nice driver car, not a fan of that wheel choice but everything else is perfect.

I had a 528i with a 5-speed several years ago. I regret selling it. If anyone is curious about an E39, I'd recommend taking a hard look at it.

the straight six cars came with a rack and pinion steering rack.... much nicer steering.
The M sport 530i's with a manual are even harder to find than M5's

Passat VR6
175k
$2500
Very dirty but maybe the motor can be transplanted elsewhere if the car is too gross to sit in.

too pricy for a parts car, and too shitty w the auto.
the magic swap car is the later b4 passat (obd2) w a manual trans
175k, prime time for a timing chain if it hasn't been done
that's a $1000 car to me tops
no hate - always a like for a VR, but that's not the one to get.
EDIT damn, that's an early VR too - distributor, even shittier

I driven a E39 540I last year for a day and I thought they were meh. Really good daily sedan compared to your civic / corolla but overall not very sporty or fun to drive at all. May because I'm expecting it to drive like a sports car lol.

^^^ I had a Mt 540i and 525i. Just wait till timing chain guide goes, valley pan gasket, and list goes on. The OEM 5sp or 6sp Mt trans is very sloppy too, you gotta install the short shift with weighted m sport knob. But the v8 torque with the Mt and a straight pipe was sweet |

The one I drove had a Dinan exhaust and I felt like it was slow. Maybe the car felt so refined that the acceleration isn't dramatic? At the end of the day is was like 300ish hp on a heavy sedan.
A 2006 IS350 felt way quicker.

probably felt a bit slow/ sloppy especially if it was not an M sport 540i.
Non M sport 540I had a taller final drive on the rear diff (fuel economy reasons)

Always loved the look of those cars, one of the ugliest seat designs this side of a Maserati Biturbo though.
Also not as cool as a Mitsu Starion, that's like saying a Stealth is as cool as a 3000GT.

Steering is awful, cabin is typical 00s Subaru hard plastic... I didn't like that Forester XT at all. It was durable, I guess, but the experience was pretty meh. The one nice thing was the great visibility all around thanks to the huge greenhouse. Oh it had a pretty wheezy AC too so summers were kinda hot...
