The gen after (the sharp edge one) is CVT. The gen that he posted has 5-speed automatics for the regular Forester, and 4-speed for the XTs.

Thanks so much for that feedback. The other two being N/A interest me more; nice to hear they come with a 5 speed auto. I'd expect cheap plastic interior and meh handling. Just need something to carry my dog and kids around that's decent on gas, somewhat reliable, with some comfort. I prefer a wagon over a small/mid SUV and won't dare go euro so that leaves few options.

My mother in law has a 2001 Limited that she's had since new. All service including TB/WP and head gaskets done at the dealer. It's got 245k kms, runs like a top, never given her one lick of trouble, and she loves it. My fondness for them most likely started with hers.

You can see in the pic of the door jamb there's rust bubbling up. Fairly common spot to rust but does signify there could be more surprises lurking.

That said, price on this dropped 10k from when I first saw it few weeks ago. Probably not a great indicator in the frenzied aircooled market.
