They changed the suspension geometry slightly for 93+ to be a bit more stable... 15" wheels Having owned many, it's not that bad, you can catch it if it does go... but it when it does let go it's like a pendulum it snaps out very quickly. I've never had it go out in regular day to day driving, but I don't drive like an idiot either. With 17's and wider tires on it never gets upset. Like EvoFire said, if you feel it starting to go, have to resist the temptation to lift throttle... it's game over. if you do that.. just keep it down and steer into the skid and everything will sort out haha I am not aware of the Spyder being particularly spin happy... I think it's setup is too light in general for it to be any worse than a Miata. The 2nd gen's engine is very heavy which increases the inertia once things go sideways (pun intended) |
Thanks gents! ill let him know. Hes eyeing that 2002 IS300 w/ a stick shift right now but i got a feeling it might be sold already. |

Curious of the details…. I’ve got a manual 04 sport design low kms in mint shape haha |
well its done deal so i can disclose 2002, original owner bought from richmond lexus. serviced at dealer for everything, has receipts, 92xxx kms on it. garage kept. This saint of a woman drove it to teach... she's retired now so a literal barn yard find. Shes the coolest educator ive ever met. Drove a stick IS. My buddy is the luckiest SOB in the world. |
Wow… what colour? Mines got 132,000kms on it Goes to show how the market has changed, I was selling it for $12,500 before covid and everyone was telling me to eat shit lol |
this dark blue? im not sure what the offical color code name is. BONE STOCK TOO.... she must have weighed like 90lbs cuz there isnt a single scuff on the leather. We were too excited to grab pictures. will post tomorrow. It looks like this below. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.clu...b29f5e67a.jpeg |

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2002-lexus-is-9/ I mean its going for around 16-17k USD for a 5 speed. i got a feeling it wont be long before these are in the 20-30k range due to how rare they are. Once they hit 25 years and collectors plates are on it, im sure it'll trigger some people to pay huge $$$ |
This one is mine... has the LSD too: https://i.imgur.com/lii2agd.jpg https://i.imgur.com/UWPeUsB.jpg https://i.imgur.com/eJyzGcB.jpg |
awww dude, thats BIG MONEY.... KEEP IT. |
Thanks haha... I really like it, it's not the most enjoyable manual transmission in the world to use but the whole package is great. I have an almost identical automatic one too... same sport design package/wheels but lighter colour that's automatic as my daily. Tell him to watch out for sticky dash on the passenger side... '02 is especially prone to it... and the audio system I think has a grey surround on it? It has a tendency to fail in that year and for some reason that particular year it's almost impossible to upgrade the stereo... like speakers even require complete rewiring front to back of the car and amp bypassing etc. If he wants to improve the clutch feel, I'd advise taking the damper out and replacing it with a brake line fitting... stupid thing won't let you slip the clutch at all, disengages the throttle and makes it super jerky starting in 1st gear. |
welcome to the e10 brotherhood. this is mine https://i.imgur.com/NeDaOShm.jpg |
Always been a huge fan of that gen IS. Solid buy, 17 seems like a lot but go find another... |
