^ so funny story, when i was selling the Maserati a guy wanted to take the car in for a vehicle inspection at Burrard Acura for some reason (his friend worked there). I said okay, didnt really think anything of it since ill be there to watch the inspection anyways. They ran the car, everything checked out, but dude couldnt get the money together.
So the next few buyers come along and they ran the carfax and showed that i did a service at burrard acura, they were like WTF, i had to explain the whole thing but im pretty sure they thought i was just cheapening out because im selling the car. Lesson learned....

Some dealers submit service records to carfax. You'll often see dealer services reported with milage and dates listed.
Regardless, carfax is a fucking joke and some people take it as gospel. It's so regularly incomplete and the amount of people convinced a clean carfax car is actually clean makes it more of a hindrance to honest sales than the amount of info it can provide to those that understand it.

If any dealere or repair shop is on that alldata system, when they log your car in it clocks the mileage and registers the the database CarFax draws from... in Badhobz place they probably logged it to check for recalls.
It's also super annoying on American cars if you import them here, some people are smart enough to do the calculation into kms but then the next 5 places will just enter the miles as kms and suddenly your whole CarFax report is full of fucking odometer rollback warnings and every buyer thinks you're a scam artist.

Cue a car being rolled, then set on fire, repaired "by your buddy after hours" then used for drug trafficking, then made back into a normal car, all without any "Carfax" records, and it's a quality car for 99% of people because the Carfax is clean
Maserati tagged at Acura? Shall not pass!

Somehow my car went from 170K KMs to 274k, then back to 173k in the span of a few months. Some dildo obviously entered 171k miles into the system somehow. The fact remains that if I were to ever sell it, there are buyers that are legitimately too stupid to decipher what happened there.

My E36 was flagged with potential odometer rollback in US Carfax but was OK in Carfax.ca. It also had no accidents registered in ICBC or either version of Carfax but my buyer was able to spot where it had been repaired before from pictures/videos alone. Some pretty obvious things if you know what you're looking for (I didn't at the time) but it looked pretty good overall especially for the age and I guess it didn't matter to him because he bought it sight unseen and is shipping it over to Ontario.

^ LOL hahahahahaha
A lot of flipper/buyer make it hard for you to go to Autoplan Broker with them as well.
They will intentionally schedule viewings when most autoplans are closed. I had a guy who said he is only avail after 830pm on weekdays as he worked 2 jobs?
So he shows up to my driveway at like 9pm...
- pays by eTransfer
- i take my plates off the car
- i filled the seller portion of the transfer form
- gave him the bottom 1/3 of my insurance paper
- had him sign a bill of sale that i just wrote up on a blank printer paper with our names, DL numbers, car year make model, VIN, date and signatures
- took a photo of his ID
And he left with my car with no plates on it. he said he lived 10min away, but his ID showed Richmond and I live near Metrotown lol....
The only reason why it went down is cuz I just wanted the car gone and the "ease of deal" got to me. Also I have put the car ad up on facebook like at 6pm when I got home from work, so getting paid by 9pm on the same day was kinda like.. YAY, that was pretty hassle free
Now it's pretty sketch thinking about it LOL, thank you everyone for confirming all my fears in the last 3 pages....

Speaking of leaving without plates
Well actually, let me back up some more, and this should be in the "no need to start a new thread", but whatever
I was selling an old dodge truck a few years ago, dude shows up to view it, as I'm walking up to meet him I say "hey man, here for the dodge?"
He replies, "that's the Mercedes right?"
I go "unhmhmmmmmm no, no, very far from Mercedes"
Him "oh, I thought it was a Mercedes"
At this point I realize he is somewhat baked, and I'm about to waste my time with this guy
Anyways, he views the truck, said he's gonna take it, all of this under 5 minutes, probably the fastest sale of a car I have ever had....
We go over to autoplan, transfer the car, he tells the lady he does not need insurance, since he only lived a couple blocks away. Lady obviously warns him that he needs insurance
In the back of my head, I'm like my god your an idiot, and in the same time, I don't care because it's under his name.
We get back to my place, and literally as soon as we start taking off the plates, a cop car rolls by, 30 seconds later, a second cop car rolls by (or the same one), a few minutes later, I'm still cleaning out the car, a third cop rolls by, stops, and asks what's going on, I look over, and before I could say anything, buddy guy starts telling the cop he just bought it.
I don't remember how the conversation went exactly, but this guy was the best bullshitter I have ever seen, his responses and everything else.
The goocher was, why did cops stop, and ask? Did they see the car without plates? Maybe they saw us as two sketchy guys cleaning out a car?
No. The fucking autoplan lady called the cops and gave them my address. (I don't know this, but what are the odds)
The cops never mentioned anything, and we didn't ask, buddy guy just played it off very well, and then ended up going back to another autoplan and getting insurance for the day
The whole situation, was probably the funniest and strangest encounter, I have ever had, selling a car

Hypothetically, a car that is regularly driven with consistent mileage and oil changed once or twice a year typically are found to be ok.
Cars that have low mileage and are infrequently driven with an annual oil change are the ones that are found with bore scoring. But high mileage cars have been known to have bore scoring too. YMMV. Do your due diligence, and if you find a good car, buy it, drive it, and enjoy it. Life is short.

In a perfect world - daily.
Once or twice a week is ok if you are driving it long enough. A quick jaunt to Whole Foods in stop and go traffic might not cut it. Going to Whole Foods, coffee and dinner with friends, and a nice drive in the evening is ok.
Change the oil once or twice a year using good oil, and you should be ok. Gotta get the engine oil nice and hot and keep the revs around 3K rpm until he oil warms up is important.
I don't have a 997 but I drive my Boxster sparingly. It's pretty much a track car now so I change the oil 3 or 4 times a year. Engine is pretty healthy and it has 146,xxx KM.
