I'd echo the comments that PDK in Sport / Sport+ mode is phenomenal at the track, to the point where it is telepathic. It almost seems like it can read your mind, and always in the right gear.
In regular daily driving in D mode, it wants to upshift early. With the turbo 4 in the 718 Caymans, that can get itself caught below the boost threshold. I suspect this would be less of an issue if PDK is paired with the bigger turbo 6 cylinder engines.
Man... if it is gonna be a daily, I'm gonna take a PDK over a manual too... Quote:

For our next Porsche, it'll have to be PDK.
Driving manual on the 401 in bumper to bumper traffic for over an hour is not fun anymore. I enjoy driving manual where it allows for it, but in urban traffic, no thanks. And that stretch from Pickering to Ajax to get to/from CTMP, good riddance.
For those of you track rats who hang with the Pcars, you know how well PDK does. There's no ifs, ands, or buts. PDK is just that good.

I want my manual 99% of the time. When I am sick though, can I have an automatic please. |
I should also note that I drive a newer 3rd gen DSG (Audi 7-speed S-tronic, the DL382 I think?) in my daily, and it's very hard to catch it in the wrong gear as opposed to my previous 1st gen VW GTI 6-speed DSG (DQ250?) which could get confused and have harsh shifts as it goes "oh shit" as it tries to catch up with what you're doing. The newer DSGs are also much better at slipping the clutch for creeping in traffic, and has more progressive engagement for smoother take-off. Because the 2.0T in my A4 is way less peaky than the 718 turbo-4s, and is tuned for low-down torque, being at 2000RPM isn't an issue as it won't bog. At 7th gear it'll happily sit at 1700RPM.
Forgot to address Supa's daily driving question too - the programming on the newer DSGs is a lot better in Sport mode, it'll downshift as appropriate, and like a manual, it can do a 4-2 or 5-2 skip shift and rev match as appropriate, as long as it's within parameters(as can the ZF 8-speed, that's still my favorite auto trans IMO). So if you're doing a right-hand turn, it'll drop gears as you decelerate to put you in the right gear to get out of the hole in the corner. Same behaviour in D or S, just more aggressive downshifts in S to keep you higher in the powerband.

That holy grail ZF8 still isn't that great in traffic imo with some sudden shifts trying to catch up to what you do occasionally.
The other thing I've noticed with BMW, at least with their B48 4cyl, they will keep feeding minimal throttle through the engine even while off the throttle in sport mode. They keep feeding throttle until the revs are above 3k, I guess to kept the turbo spinning and on throttle response would be better. It'll shut off right at 3k, I've tested this a few times trying to engine brake down a hill and see the fuel economy meter not zeroing out until the engine crests 3k.

As nice as radar cruise is in traffic, after dailying autos for the past 10 years I can't wait to get back to a manual DD. That said, my normal driving isn't that bad. If your commute is so horrific that you want an auto, why buy a sporty car at all and not something more comfy and practical?

No issues dailying the e36 from North van to DT. Manual, low, creaky. Give me it all, all the time. Worst case Ontario it keeps me focused on all the dumb shit happening on the road.

For those of you who've eaten at Nakornthai, the food is quite spicy. Still appropriate (and unfortunate.)

You sure it’s RWD? The engine looks transversely mounted. Edit: sure looks like a drift shaft/trans tunnel going through the back seats. I have no idea ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

2008 Subaru Forester 2.5 XT Sport
The good:
-turbo
-manual
-World Rally Blue
-stock
-very rare combination (last model year SG chassis in WRB/turbo/manual)
-200000kms
The bad:
-no mention of when/if timing belt was done
-no mention of when/if clutch was done
IMHO it's a steal at less than 10k even in the pre-covid market

Anyways, great buy. I'm surprised it took two days to find a buyer at $10k.
