I got my 2010 speed3 for $6500 in 2016 with 100k KMS, I beat on it for a year and my buddy learned standard on it (he's still not very good) and been beating the hell out of it since. Now at 220k+ km, i have to beg him to do oil changes and there's been no other maintenance I'm aware of other than tires and brakes. Probably the best vehicle I've ever purchased I still love that car
Oil changes on the MZR-DISI can get a little pricy because of the high oil capacity and the gearbox oil is expensive if you get the Ford unicorn juice, otherwise it's quite light on consumables.
I almost never changed my rear brakes until I took it to Mission and I wanted to move the brake bias to the rear with more aggressive rear pads. The big discs on the front means they last forever.
My MS3 just had a bunch of random issues:
Coil pack died at 110k
Eats through RSB endlinks and brackets (2 sets in 70k)
Wire break for one of the injectors - won't fire - simple soldering fix but damn chasing it down was a bitch.
But on the good days. I can keep up with E90's at Mission, I can keep up with an SL55 on the highway, leave an S5 in the dust. I can lift a rear wheel at autox while pouring rain.
I can haul almost anything home from Ikea, I can take it camping, it drives well in the snow (as long as it's not too deep)
Supposed to take just standard 75W90, but many owners find the Ford brand XT-M5-QS Full Synthetic stuff made a huge increase in the performance of the transmission. It's like $25 a liter.
What fluid does it take? The focus / Mazda 3 share the same C chassis or wtv. Ford manuals take DCT fluid

What Great68 said. The tranny is I think an Aisin unit and there are versions of it with different ratios that are installed in diesels. Because of the box is so damn short stock (240km/h gear limited in 6th) some very highly tuned ppl go find a diesel box from Europe and swap it in for a more usable range.
Last time I did a drain and fill was in 2016 I think, it was already $22/bottle and you need 3 bottles.
For oil everyone swears by Rotella T6 5w-40. At almost 6l capacity, oil changes add up.
I'm not a big believer on fancy engine oils, I've had more cars than I can count in my personal life and fleet managed hundreds if not thousands of others professionally... all manner of use like racing / aggressive driving / pursuit vehicles and in 18 years I've seen 1 engine blow up and it wasn't related to the oil in it -- manufacturer's defect haha
I believe in changing oil quite often, but not with expensive ones.
Transmission oil though wow, you can really feel the difference on a manual car with some of them. I put GM synchro in my MR2 way back when it was popular to do so and it made quite a difference. As did... Redline MT90? Forget the name.

Did somebody say Asian trannys?

Oil type matters a bit more these days with the Turbo direct injected motors. That's why they developed that new API SN+ rating, specifically to address low speed preignition and oil dilution that those engines can be prone to.

T6 Rotella is hardly Liquimoly or Motul expensive, but every now and then it gets hard to find. It's supposed to be the best in keeping lubrication from contamination and resist fuel dilution. The MZR engines are dirty due to the soot from DI turbo. But yet more often oil changes help too.
I bought some 12l jugs and my mechanic wanted to kill me because they were so big and heavy.

The difference between Non-M maintence and M maintenance is pretty much negligible - if i had to estimate, 15-20% more. Its an insignificant amount because in some cases, the M has better parts that don't break.
