Not a Yamaha engine like the V6 of the previous gen, it has Yamaha heads like a lot of engines do (3SGTE, 2ZZ, etc) but is actually a Cosworth block. Definitely need to ask if the cams have been welded as they like to separate from the sprocket and destroy the engine on these. Slushbox only and a styling disaster for the most part lol… but can be fun cars! Easy collector plates for this one in a year.
How he could post this ad without a picture of the engine is beyond me... NOT as cool looking as the V6 but still an interesting design.
They sound fucking incredible with the exhaust opened up:
it does. it really does.
But then again i think my old maz sounded better than my LC500 too.
I bought it as a RELIABLE/doesn't cost me 18k in a single service bill/ alternative to the maz and i wanted a vert so i can blow my remaining few hairs in the wind.
also comfort... it has to be fucking comfortable for my 6'2 fat ass frame.

I honestly think the LC500 coupe is one of the most beautiful car in production right now... I would buy one in a second if they weren't $80k+++++
they'll come down. and when they do, snatch one up before they go back up again because im almost certain this is going to be a future collectable. Im expecting ~50-60k at the low point and then it'll just stay around there.
i dont think it can drop any lower because the overall sales in canada is less than 1k throughout its lifespan so far.
LEXUS LC – CANADA – BY YEAR
Year sold
2017 171
2018 129
2019 74
2020 137
2021 193
2022 131
edit: also on the LC forums i keep hearing people say that 2023 will be the last year they make it. Sales are utter trash for the LC and the 2023 revision is basically nothing, no new improvements to anything other than they added cloudburst grey as a color.
I messaged the seller over a week ago and we had a pretty detailed exchange.
He's the second owner and has owned it for 7-8 years and had it maintained at a place in Surrey that works on cop cars (can't remember the name off the top of my head).
When he bought the car, it came with a huge stack of receipts but there's no evidence to suggest the cams were welded. He actually had no idea it was an issue and was angry that Ford's recall solution was Loctite.
He bought a new vehicle and the SHO isn't insured but will put a day plate on for anyone who's seriously interested and wants to check it out. Seller seems very honest and quite nice. I passed because I don't need another sedan as awesome as this one would be. I'd seriously consider it if the cams were welded.
Also to note, the V8 SHO from 96-98 (only) has a semi active suspension system which adapts to driver input.

Slightly off topic, but when you guys buy a car privately, is pulling the carfax the only way to know if the car has a lien on it? As I’ll be making the draft directly to the seller, I’m kind of worried. I pulled the carfax myself and it was clean
Not sure about the price, but I love the design of these things. Low kilometers (118,000), "well-maintained" and sounds like it was owned by a married couple.
Too bad not the Speed variant.

Owned one of these before, great cars, super practical, great handling and fun with the manual. This looks like a great example

There's no speed or turbo for the P5 unfortunately.
Can't ever win. They released a turbo for the regular protege, ppl wanted it in the hatch.
They release the MS3 in hatch only, ppl wanted it in sedan form.
