You grabbed the TE's too... wow!
I was really on the fence about it because I have a 2003 Celica GT-S right now which is arguably a very similar car with similar powerband just slightly newer... but always dug the styling of these guys.

It doesn't look terrible from camera distance and it's a daily driver so looks like a good foundation.

I was really on the fence about it because I have a 2003 Celica GT-S right now which is arguably a very similar car with similar powerband just slightly newer... but always dug the styling of these guys. | I’d argue the GTS is more of a classic. JDM stuff is cool and all that but that’s only because we couldn’t get it here. That Celica is the stuff of early 2000s dreams. Everyone in high school wanted that or the prelude. Nobody had any money and I recall the first time I drove it was in Langara. This fob girl I was kind of dating had one. A white GTS with leather but sadly automatic. I think I fell in love with the car more than her. We used to drive around grabbing bubble tea and taking it to Jericho beach.
Good memories.

To give everyone some context for this Corolla Levin buy, it is actually the replacement for my younger brother's JDM 1998 Integra 4 door (With a Single Cam D Series). It was posted in this thread two years ago. We have been toying with the idea of B-Series swapping the Integra because it is just too painfully slow, but we are both very busy with our careers and life right now. So, we began searching for a slight upgrade: Has to be a FWD, Twin-cam 4 cyl sports car (EM1's, CSX-S, RSX etc etc.) Quote:

Please feel free to PM me or I am sure you will see it at one of the various summer meets. Don't be afraid to HMU!
I actually ended up leaving the TE's, as much as I think they are nice I was able to get a cheaper price without them. I have like three other 4x100 sets at home so I couldn't justify it.
So, I have never driven a Celica GTS but I have driven a Fielder Wagon and Corolla XRS with the same engine. I think the overall "vibe" is the same between the two: 2 doors, high revving 4 cylinder, boring-ish interior... But the newer 1ZZ (I am a Honda boy, hoping this is the right engine code) with VVTI I think makes a bit more power than this older 4AGE 20V, correct?
I like the Celica because it brings me back to that early 2000's import tuner era. This Corolla Levin kind of does as well, it brings me back to the Tokyo Xtreme Racer and Gran Turismo days. When it comes to the kind of driving I like to do, I really prefer FWD. Everyone has their preference and lifestyle.
I like the idea of this Levin because it gives me that 4AGE Sound, FWD, great looks and I am not shelling out $30-50k+ for the equivalent Integra Type-R. Believe me, I am a die-hard Honda guy and much prefer the ITR over this. This is the first ever Toyota in the mix, and we are willing to learn the car and see how we like it! Quote:

The idea of doing a left turn in a RHD car makes me kinda nervous. | So, there is no way around it. It is an inconvenience, and the price to pay to experience some of the cars we never got here on this side of the world. I like to split it up into two categories. 1. Controls.
I like most people, shift faster with their right-hand (I am right handed). So, the 1-2 and 2-3 shift honestly takes some getting used to when driving at the limit as these shifts are now away from you. 3-4 Shift feels pretty normal. Next, Signals and Wipers are reversed. Again, takes some getting used to and I still occasionally have a derp moment. Lastly, with all my RHD Cars, I run a wide-angle broadway mirror to make merging to the left easier. 2. Driving.
I feel like with time, you will get used to things. It is a little odd at first. Turning left at intersections, can be scary at times. I try and come in at more of an angle so that my line of sight can see oncoming cars, but sometimes (especially when there is a large truck) it is NOT possible. I just do not go until I am confident. Sorry to people behind me, I know. But I DO NOT go unless I can absolutely see (eg. I wait for the opposite turning car to go).
Next is merging to the left. eg. onto highways. Like mentioned above, I run a wide angle broadway and this solves that issue.

Some rust on the RR fender and the photos are not recent but it's a survivor with its man tran still intact.
Yes it's kinda fugly but it's still okay to love ugly things. I say the same thing when I see my reflection.

OMG that woodie Le Baron is so shitty, I want it! It's such a feat for a car to be so abjectly awful that it becomes good.
I have a CL saved search for FX50S's, when that one popped up, I was contemplating posting it in the CL Fails thread. I love those cars and have the saved search on them because if one popped up for the right price, I'd pick it up. I think that one's a bit of a fail for the "Must Be Sold!!!" title but the super spendy asking price. If it really must be sold, price it better. I can buy a newer Porsche Cayenne or Macan for the $ he's asking.
The old CL good buys thread has been a bit quiet lately with the crazy prices in the used car market. Nice to see a few interesting deals popping up. Quote:

Interest rates soaring, people cutting their cars loose and market prices dropping.
It seems like the ads are slowly getting more interesting again with prices that aren’t overly crazy.
Next few months are gonna be fun browsing for stuff.

Not sure if that gen FX is any better but all the FX I looked at had the bubbly dash, and the interior trunk space is pretty small for how big the car is. We ended up with a rx330 as the interior was much nicer and roomier.

FX and RX are two very different driving cars.
FX more driver friendly. More nimble on its feet with some practicality.
RX is a nice comfy get around car with more trunk volume.

The Ebola dash seems to be an issue mostly in the earlier years. From what I’ve seen they had it sorted by 2010. Quote:
