The oil sensor randomly threw check engine oil for some reason even post oil change. Valve cover gaskets were leaking and needed to be replaced. Trunk built up a pool of water in the spare area from the water / snow. The suspension was pretty shot on speed bumps but I never noticed since I never really driven nicer cars.
Replacing the brakes and rotors costed 2.5x all my Honda's and that's with a friend discount, spark plugs were cheap to replace from rock auto. Cheap used tires/wheel combos were plentiful for the platform off of clist/fb marketplace. I don't think I'm ready to own a german car unless I can wrench myself because there was always a lingering worry that it may stop working on my way to work lol.
On the good side
- It drove 1000x better than any other car I've daily'd it's nice to not have something loud / rough / worry about scraping
- Insurance was $1,100 with basic, no need for collision / comprehensive on a cheap car!
- The hatch has a ton of room with seats down
- Picks up speed really really fast on the 0 - 60KM/hr, but I never got to floor it in fear it'd explode lol
- 8L/100KM on highway and 10L/100KM in city
- I own a scanner now

I don't know why a bunch of people lined up for an almost 300,000KM Audi though, I assume everyone else is handy and can DIY rock auto parts? A few maintenance items and unexpected repairs and you're into the car for similar examples at < 200,000KM.
My thought process was that if it runs < 6 months especially through winter, you'd get your moneys worth lol. The car is extremely clean inside and out for the KM though, surprised how well it drove when it did drive.

Slow but sweet, just like my 13 FR-S I used to have in every way... but stronger & better.
My 2cents, if its free TAKE it, if its $10,000 BUY it. Most fun you'll ever have and you wont even care about the looks.

And I wouldn't feel bad beating the crap out of it.

are manual base corollas or camry fun?
i suppose with collector plates you can justify the relative poor fuel economy to power or versatility ratio but then you can't daily unless 100% wfh

All corollas are fun. Why ? Simple! You can trash on them 24/7 and they’ll just sit there and silently take it. Also nobody expects a Corolla to do clutch dumps or peel outs so the theatre is that much more awesome.
Straight pipe the ratrolla and nobody will know it’s you. They’ll probably think it’s that dastardly civic next to you as no one suspects the innocent ratrolla.
Oh you’re talking about dynamics… uhhhh it’s a car.

When I had my Camry it was in the GS class for autox. That's not the lowest class as there's a HS class under it catching everything else. It's been demoted since but I guess it tells you it's nowhere near the slowest car.
In this day and age of turbo all the things, and even NA cars have a wide power band from big adjustable valve timing, it's not going to be fast. Back then it was a 20 year old car that would still spank most things below it's class.
A thing that a lot of ppl don't talk about is how Toyotas are kind of Lego'esque as well, at least when it comes to engines.
Here's to consider:
Camry/ES300 of that gen comes in auto or manual
5SFE 4cyl, 3VZFE V6, 1MZFE V6
SW20 MR2 comes in
5SFE, 3SGE, 3SGTE.
So the thinking goes if a 5SFE will fit, then a 3SGTE will fit. That's how we ended up with a few 3SGTE swapped Camry's, and some V6 swapped MR2s. Obviously it's not as simple as dropping in but you get the gist.
The V6 also have a TRD supercharger available. I believe it would put something like 220whp on a Camry if you do it right.

Yep. That 92’ Gen Camry with V6 stick or auto.
The fastest damned car we can lay our 17 year old hands on without getting pulled over anywhere…. (And can smoke buddy $20 balla in his EP3/DC5 base). They were great for badminton days.. because you can drive everyone in ok comfort
Man. To this day I still feel those things are pretty quick for the year plus the ridiculous amount of body roll it does (but rides soooo good even for today)
