We paid 24k for our mk7.5 sportwagen, and picked up an excellent e46 touring for 3.5k. Sounds like we both ended up even. Things cost what they cost. Save somewhere and get fucked somewhere else.

We have a FWD. We had a budget and at the time, the only 4motions within our budget were in the base trim.

My wife wanted more creature comforts , so we ended up with an older model with the Fender audio and HIDs.

^ yah, you need the 4motion about 2-3x's a year for snow in Vancouver. And 5-6 if you go skiing in Whistler.

I live in an area in the Lower Mainland with significant snow.

I have a set of winter tires for the sportwagen and we have never had a problem getting around where we are with FWD.

Get the 4Motion because it has the DSG.

We also have the FWD model. 4 motion was a little out of the budget or it would have taken away from e30 parts.
I've always done whistler trips in the RWD touring or the m3 with proper winters and never had an issue. It really doesn't snow much on the highway. Even used to do it in the slammed mk5 without trouble. Would have liked the 4motion just based on driving dynamics and dsg though. FWD really is shitty to drive

i think the DSG is the worst part of the car though. It was often jerky at low speeds and i heard it was also quite fragile. that DSG fluid change is also very expensive.

4motion was good.. until it wasnt. it didnt do jack shit in this sand, and we got totally stuck. had to get a 4runner guy to pull us out.

The DSG 6-speed is jerky at low speed as it is an earlier version compared to the newer 7-speed. To reduce jerkiness, you can either get a TCU (transmission tune) or drive it in manual mode until ~20kph. It's not fragile though - a lot of the GTI/Golf R guys get 400HP on them easily and they hold that power. You can upgrade the clutches for bigger power.

As for the sand, that's just a tire flotation issue - you see trucks and jeeps stuck in the sand on stock tires a lot because there's not enough flotation. The guys with bigger 33/35/37 tires do better on sand to spread out the weight more.

It happens to the best of us, I did an aerial endo off the top of a sand dune in Oregon on an ATV once, flipped the ATV like 5 times and fell about 20 feet/rolled the rest of the way down the dune myself...

Was pulling sand outta crevices on my body that I didn't even know I had for a solid week after.

In light of the above, this seems like a fair ask.

2018 Golf Sportwagen, 4motion, 112K kms (bit high), $20K ... too bad it's on a dealer lot on Kingsway in Surrey.

https://vancouver.craigslist.org/rds...585640155.html

Here's another, but this guy tried to make it look like an R wagon with fake quad exhaust, R steering wheel, and R wheels. Big ask though, 2018 with 52K kms, $28.5K

That Camry is never going to die unless you crash it or something. My mother had one and hated how it didn't' give her any practical excuses to get a new car.

May I suggest a Volvo wagon? These V60s with the T6 are sleepers - beautiful inside and has 300hp/325 lb-ft of torque to boot.

And speaking of Sportwagens, I do miss my AllTrack...

Do not want the new Volvo motors. Too complex...

Also the chassis is not as good as MQB/MLB Evo.

The MK7 sportwagen/Alltrack with stick shift is basically auto nirvana for most people. Good chassis, decent interior (with the revised infotainment), and practicality. The weak points are the seals by the water pump/thermostat amd PCV, but overall, the drivetrain has proven to be quite reliable.

nah, the problem was the low clearance. sand's too soft and i got high sided.

Anyways, during the 4 years of ownership i had a couple of issues. the DSG had some issues with low speed clunking as mentioned before. They tried a few things at the dealership but it never was completely fixed. Replaced the DSG fluid too and that didnt even fix it. The infotainment would randomly crash and restart and i had 3 pano sunroof failures.

First failure was due to the rails not linning up properly and water getting in. (replaced headliner)
Second failure was the drain spouts getting clogged and flooding again (replaced 2nd headliner)
3rd failure was the rollers getting completely stuck and i couldnt even close the damn thing. I read quite a bit of pano roof issues on the MK7 forums.

What about subuwus? Literally all of them are awd. And the good shit too, none of that only kicks in when you slip awd. You literally have all sized and shapes of wagons to choose from. Outback, Impreza, legacy, Forrester

What did you expect from the finest of German engineering. Nothing more exciting that starting the car every morning wondering what light will come on and how much it will cost me.

German cars just drive differently.

That's why, despite the niggles, people buy them.

No more Impreza wagon or Legacy wagon. Forester and Outback are true SUVs now, very tall. Subaru has gotten fat and boring. The WRX is alone, and no more STI. Subaru wagons no longer exist - only older models.

And you'd be surprised at the current state of Subaru AWD especially with CVT - it's no longer "symmetrical" AWD, it's front-biased to a degree for better fuel economy. Also, CVT trans is absolute dogshit. That's why the new WRX is a joke for making the top trim CVT only.
