the senior citizens here (or maybe i'm the only one) might remember this.

before monster blackbirds, hayabusas and zx11 ninjas ever existed, there was the 1989 gsxr1100 (aka. "the widowmaker"). i remember pinning the throttle on this and wondering if would still be on it by the time i hit redline and pray for no headshake...

[edit] i see a steering damper on the left side. probably why this thing doesn't look like it has ever been crashed (usually the pipes are first to go if you go down unless it had aftermarket before), but it must be a pig to steer at low speeds.

yes it was reliable. it did not give me any head ache. I did spend a little money modding it because it was very mod friendly. that caused it to be a bit of a money pit.

also, for some reason, I only paid 140/month on insurance when I owned it. I had about 25/30 percent discount. i pay twice than that on my 4 now.

weak spot about these cars are the stock clutch. but replace it with a stronger aftermarket one and the problem is fixed.

How much difference is there between the 8 and 9?
I know there is the 2 nostils on the front bumper. Anything else?

yes, you are right. the front bumper, darker head lights and tail lights on the 9. MIVEC on the 9, different turbos, different stock wheels, and some differences in appearance of steering wheels, seats, and rear spoiler

The white S/C has been on craigslist for sale over 5 years. Yes, I have seen this car since 5 years ago every time I search for a new toy. The price has been set in stone at $9,500 as well...

oh the ad said posted 12 days ago i didn't know it was a repost... i guess that bent rear axle (seems to be a common thing) and the leakage is worse than advertised?

SumAznGuy 01-22-2015 02:17 PM

I think both the 4runner and the White MR2 have both been posted on this thread.

It's funny how some things seemed like a good deal but never sold and cars were really good deals and sold within hours like the red miata on the last page.

Personally, I am glad we have this thread as it saved me a bunch of times as I was about to go check out a few cars only to read on this thread that either the car had issues or had been for sale for months.

white rocket 01-22-2015 02:58 PM

That 4Runner was posted in the summertime. I almost bought it but it had a big suspension damage claim and wasn't repaired properly. He was asking $7K I believe. New asking price is decent depending on the required repairs. The TRD S/C is $2729USD brand new from Dallas Toyota.

That is pretty steep however that car is in really good shape, and low mileage. A Guards Red 951 with phone dials is as classic as it gets.

However, that is the least desirable year of 951, 89 being the most desirable and most powerful. If you just wanted a collector car though, it would be a good buy. If you wanted to mod or change it, not the car you want.

And the first 2 things you would want to know are:
1) When was the timing belt/wp done
2) When was the clutch done

If no history on the belt/pump, you better pony up right away. If the clutch is going soon, you could negotiate on that as well. 944 clutches are bitches to do.
