How's the insurance cost on maz? :okay: still want a Quattroporte

trollface 09-19-2023 06:52 AM

Why does everyone still think car values have big impact on insurance? It's always the driver and liabilities you buy. A 89 Honda Civic costs the same to insure as an M3.

It won't take much to write off a 35k Maz. An 89 honda civic kills pedepseirans just as well as a 458.

Incredible that a 30 year old Ford Tempo can be listed for $5k. Looks super clean though. Is it just an engine swap away from being a 1 of a kind Tempo SHO? Will the Yamaha V6 fit in there?

This could not be more wrong

well it used to be VERY expensive (like 5k) when they were first out. nowadays i think its pretty cheap due to the low amounts of GT's still around. Probably under 2k a year

Not all M3's are created equal. A Tesla Model 3 costs more to insure than a BMW M3, which costs more than a Mazda 3.

That's not even that expensive. My crappy FRS cost 2k to insure with full discount when it was brand new, 27 out the door. A new Maz that time is literally worth 4-5 times more and it only costs twice as much to insure.

My friend's V8 M3 is $1600 and my frs 10 years later is $15,880 and my buddy's old CRX cost $1,700.

Dbone 09-19-2023 09:33 AM

My Lotus costs less to insure than the (now gone) 2008 Outback I had. Way less than our Mazda 3. No idea why.

trollface 09-19-2023 09:37 AM

Exactly, your Exige is worth what? 60-80k?

yeh shits all over the damn place. I think they base it on overall accidents of that particular type of vehicle, repair cost, replacement costs, residual values, value when new, etc etc.

Then you factor in age bracket, driving history, your mom's pubes color, and you get this jumbo of math that spits out a random number they deemed is your payment for the year

We were talking about insurance recently. My S2K is < $900 basic and $1,300 a year full coverage on pleasure. My friend without max discount a V8 R8 was paying sub $2,600 full coverage, 300/300 with work. V10 R8 with an accident was paying $3.8K with pleasure. Insurance is so cheap now.

trollface 09-19-2023 10:10 AM

My agent says it's all about the car's statistics.

Theft/Vandalism, and crash rates for the type of car are weighted extremely heavily, not value. That's why you have 80k Loutus costing less to insure than a Mazda 3 or Forrester.

If they don't crash, there is no payout, no matter the value.

Yeah, and it doesn't take much of a hit on a clam shell to cost a decent chunk of that.

My dad had a Tempo L as his first car in Canada. I still have PTSD recalling how much shit went wrong in that trash bucket. It leaked coolant everywhere, had alternator issues, a few head gaskets, and all kinds of weirdo shit that eventually he gave up and traded it in for a Plymouth Voyager aka dodge caravan (which had its own set of issues)

I recall as a kid I used to sit there watching the tach and telling him to not go over 3k as it sounded like the car would explode. Lousy ford, fix-or-repair-daily was exactly right.

Yeah lies about the milage. No mention about the fucked up roof. I know the previous owner. He sold it for like 3k and said it's a pile of shit.
