I've never known anyone who had one so I honestly know next to nothing about them. But I always liked the looks and having never owned anything fast the idea of a 400hp V8 has always been appealing. The USDM ones held value so well I sort of assumed they must be pretty decent even if they're auto only.

The '11-'14s are known as the most desirable MYs as '08-'09 did not have a mechanical LSD. '10 has the LSD but no suspension changes.

They revised the suspension to be more comfy/compliant in the 2011-14s.

Also, for what its worth, the 8 speed in there is one of the fastest shifting conventional automatics.

Quote:

The Lexus IS F features an 8-speed Sport Direct Shift (SPDS) automatic transmission with sequential shift which can lock-up the torque converter from 2nd through 8th gears (see also: Lexus IS transmission specifications). The SPDS is derived from the unit introduced in the 2007 Lexus LS, which was the first vehicle to carry an 8-speed transmission.[49] The SPDS allows for shifts to occur in 0.1 s (100 ms),[50] compared to 0.05 s (50 ms) of F1 race cars.
Yamaha designed the cylinder head, the rest is Toyota.

Same motor (2UR-GSE) as the LC500, RC-F, GS-F, with different compression ratios.

You know they did something right for them to use a 16 year old engine on a 2020s flagship coupe.

Fanboy-ing a bit of course, but its one of the more special Toyota/Lexus vehicles left out there.

How many other Japanese rear wheel drive sedans with a reliable V8 are out there?

JDMDreams 10-10-2023 08:28 AM

Well literally all Japanese rwd sedans are na v8 all the Lexus, infinity m45, m56, q45. My cousin had a is350 when it was new, pretty fast but back seats were so small. I'm not sure if I can live with that size interior anymore :okay:

Isn't that Toyota and Honda's entire forte? They literally use the same thing forever and ever, always slower to adapt new things.

68style 10-10-2023 09:53 AM

2GR and J35 have entered the chat

Inb4 someone buys it, drives 23k and posts it with under 1000 original km.

I mean... the 2GR and 2UR made sense in the late 2000s when other 3-400hp performance blew up for fun (E60/92/STi/N54/55) and the Americans had fisher price interiors

But in today's world... B58 & 3.0T Audis solid for years, GM stole E46/39 chassis and combined with F10/11 interior in the Blackwing, Dodge packages stitched leather dashes with 707 reliable HP.... we got good options.

There is no amount of convincing that a 2IS/RCF has a better interior or driving experience than a CT5-V Blackwing/Plus package Challenger
The GSF seats don't even fold lmao

Looking kinda hood however .... a different story

68style 10-11-2023 10:46 AM

Man I saw some big asian dude turn onto Alderbridge in Richmond the other day in a CT5, pretty sure it was just the V not the Blackwing because it sounded more like a 6 than an 8, but it was in that grabber blue colour and still took off like an absolute rocket, he was driving that thing hangry as hell heading toward Chipotle fo sho. Or Thai Son maybe.

JDMDreams 10-11-2023 02:23 PM

Q70L V8 would be a good fit. It's basically an updated M56

On the topic of import V8s, how reliable are the Hyundai/Kia Tau V8s?

And, since we're talking Yamaha developed V8s, can't forget the Taurus SHO V8 and Volvo S80 V8

I would always want to have a German/exotic brand type thing in the garage if I had American.

Product is good but image is not ... I'd pickup a $30k type exotic brand thing for when the badge matters

Maybe...

1) 38k 17 Cayenne GTS: https://carsandbids.com/auctions/3Rv...he-cayenne-gts
2) 36k 11 Rapide: https://carsandbids.com/auctions/rJm...-martin-rapide
3) 39k 4C: https://carsandbids.com/auctions/36b...-alfa-romeo-4c
4) 44k 981:https://carsandbids.com/auctions/3vd...sche-boxster-s
5) 22k V8 Vantage....: https://carsandbids.com/auctions/rNd...tin-v8-vantage

OTOH....

6) Ferrari FF & Mclaren 570 prices starting to drop below 6 figures USD...

Badhobz 10-12-2023 07:18 AM

I dont think American cars have an image problem. At least i don't have any reservations about somebody driving American. Although Cadillac has lost some of its luster vs its previous heights as the "standard of the world" (basically on par with Rolls Royce) i still find it refreshing to see one on the road vs the regular Germanic luxobarge

I rather like Lincoln too but only their old contiental. Like the one that Elvis had.

JDMDreams 10-12-2023 10:34 AM

It's the image of the people who buy them, Cadillac has been buddy guys, Hummer red neck buddy guys, mustang drivers who loves crowds.

Yup, even when I show up in a Scat Pack and most of the Scat Pack drivers in Seattle are FOBs/fun boomers, Vancouver friends immediately associate it with buddy guys n filipinos.

There _are_ communities and places where the badge matters and I'm happy to play that game if I'm meeting people who might just change my life

Badhobz 10-12-2023 10:47 AM
