$40K isn't too bad for a C4S, assuming it has the right options and is well maintained.
Similar to you, IMS doesn't bother me. Maintenance/ownership levels has been as good as our Toyota daily driver.

Did not own, but did get to drive one for a week back in 2014 through a local contest. Had a Panamera eHybrid. I was in the market for one recently and test drove a bunch of them. It's an amazing daily driver which can do what you are looking to do (boat might be questionable, but not impossible.) Maintenance and failures are expensive and imminent (i.e. the spoiler, suspension air bags, and coolant valve/pipe etc.) It's not a matter of "if" they will fail, but more so a matter of "when" so you will need to always have that rainy day fund. If you are okay with dealing with these things, they are amazing cars and very rewarding to drive.
I still want one but financially, it's one huge money pit, so we are going to wait things out until the economy returns "back to normal." And like 68style said, everything is overblown in Porsche-land. Given how Porsche is treating its customers lately, it's making it hard for me to be a continued customer. I'll still hold on to my 986 as a fun car but beyond that, I may start looking towards other marques.

I see 3500LB tow capacity. That wheelbase, power, brakes and overall weight I bet it’s a great tow rig. Just hope the launch isn’t too shallow or the back seats will be in the water. lol. Tough to get over the looks though.
hahaha consider a Gen 2 Panamera (2017+) but that's usually in $70 - $80K territory. They look better, but is it worth the extra $30 - $40K? I dunno. Looks aside, awesome cars. Just very expensive to own/maintain.
Case in point - We looked at a well-optioned 2018 GTS. Was hee-hawing back and forth to go forward on it or not, and it was sold the day we were ready to move forward with the purchase. We found out a month later, the transmission failed LOL. Like, what the hell, Porsche/ZF!?!?!

I still think 970 is still a tough buy for a lot of people due to its looks. It will take a while before the 971s depreciate to 970 levels, and by then, the entire car would need to be restored

I feel like we've discussed this before but I had the exact opposite experience lol. It was incredibly comfortable but I didn't find it very interesting to drive when I pushed it even slightly.

For those considering a bigger p car. It's floating in the idea of the next toy car. Cayenne/ over land build? You can find 955/957s all day everyday for less than a boxster. Even cayenne turbos are less than 996s. Yes the v8 has bore score but I believe panameras will have the same issue. So it's either v6 or turbo as turbos don't have these issues. I don't know why panameras hold their value so much considering the suv hype but cayennes are cheaper. And seems like a better year round family car. As much as I like a sports car, boxster, 911, unless it's AWD c4s I don't see myself being able to enjoy it year round as much as it's so small/ daily practicality issues. Costco runs, week end drives to the States, can't throw dogs in etc. So it seems like it will be destined as a secondary weekend summer car. But I also don't want to spend that much money on something I can only use sometimes 6 months out of the year.
I daily'd my 996 and 986 up until I recently shipped it over to Vancouver.
Let's see what else I did with it?
Track days - yes
Costco runs - yes
Portable BBQ in the car - yes
Weekend drives to the States - yes
Drove in snow/sleet/salt/torrential rain falls etc - yes
Drove friends/family in the car - yes , albeit not for long trips
Only thing I didn't do was throw dogs into the car because I don't have any pets. I don't want a honkin' sized SUV but I can see the logic behind it purely from a value perspective. Sorry, man. But a Porsche isn't a unicorn car unless you have something really rare or waiting to be buried in one when you die.

O and I absolutely do not want to drop $30000 on a engine rebuilt on a $40000 car, unless you buy a shell and k swap? But I doubt that's cheap since we don't have third world labour rates.
I don't mind that guy who's doing the 308 k-swap etc... happy to piss off Ferrari douches... but just seems sooooo wrong to replace the flat 6 sound with Honda nonsense lol
Then again, I have done a k-swap before and seen how not great they can be in a lot of ways... so I might be biased.

I dailied a NC Miata, it's fine. I daily a M3 right now (dailying is a bit of a stretch since I WFH) and I don't see a problem moving on to the 911 once the kids are a little older and can get in and out on their own. Granted I'll still go test drive a 911 with the kids first.
If anything a 911 has more space than a Miata since it has back seats. Put some proper tires on it and it'll drive through winter no problem. I have winters on the M3 and it's got retarded power going through two little 255 patches.

Exactly, and I have a family car. I just want a fun car that has the option of the family for a trip to whistler. Like I said, I have, and have no problem doing it again in the e36, but I'm being buried in that car, so if I want to try new things something like a 996 or 997 is perfect for that. I just like the 997 less.

If I had a C4S instead of a turbo, I would daily that thing everyday, assuming the mileage was remotely better.
I have enough bikes to play with, so it sits around as a summer weekend car/garage queen. Or the occasional car Trackday when I have freetime between bike days.
Future plan is to either keep it forever, or just trade up to a GT3 if it's just gonna sit around in the garage.
