Depends on the discount after everything's done ... a lot of stuff needs to be done regardless of age these days (i.e. anything rubber like mounts, shocks) along with the usual M3 stuff.

My personal hot take is that low mileage S2000 are not a good deal since the top/all mounts/shocks/etc gonna need some love.

Could you tell us more about the cons of a k-swap?

It's a 64L capacity tank.
Gets around 15-16L/100km. Or 300-320KMs every 50L. With light WOT boost runs on open straights. That being said, it's also Softtronic tuned, and it put out 480/493 HP/TQ to the wheels on RG's dyno.

The 996 has an annoying issue where if you don't turn the nozzle to 9 oclock, it only fills up about 80% full. I don't know if its just a Turbo thing though.

Sports cars are not bad on gas. Its called smiles per gallon

Complaining about how much gas your sportscar eats, is the equivalent of complaining about 10k in taxes on your 2 million dollar home

Anytime you mod a car away from OEM there are cons even if it's just suspension. Changing an engine is a massive job even if you're a pro at it... just stuff like the engine mounts and what type of bushings you use on them can turn the car into a vibration filled buzzing mess nevermind trying to get all the electronics to match up.

The main thing now is cost, back when I did mine I bought an entire RSX Type-S with a salvage title for $2,700... you an barely even buy an engine and tranny for $5k+ now let alone all the swap parts and labour. I haven't looked into the S2000 myself but I would think on a K24 with a turbo and all the tuning, eletctronics, mounts, driveshafts etc etc etc probably be $20,000+ pretty easily by the time you're done haha

15-16L/100KM seems pretty good imo for almost 500WHP?

I average 14l/100KM in a S2000 and it's not even close lol

Is it supposed to have FIA-homologated Recaro carbon fibre seats and a 5-point OMP harness?

The average brand new car costs $65K these days? Are you from another planet?

not a listing but talks about affordability and options, start around 23min mark

wow jason is quite out of touch here: saying 3k car back in the day is still accessible at 8-12k and that a 25yo would lust after a bmw f30?

but i guess on point if you've built up to owning 11 cars and have a chandelier in the garage

I don't think these are hard to get anymore - I see SAs listing incoming Core units on FB Marketplace somewhat regularly. Circuits are still hard to get AFAIK.

Yes 50k pre tax for cloth seats and literally the same interior as a 25k base Corolla hatch is god damn depressing. Plus you lose a cylinder while gaining a highly boosted turbo and awd system.

Sounds like the base wrx at 35k is a better buy if you wanna go awd

Flipping new cars for over MSRP is done. The GR is not a limited production car. I also like the cloth seats.

I think $3K - > $8-12K is a fair argument.

Min wage is close $16.75 but almost all retail jobs start somewhere between $17 - 20/hour nowadays due to the labour shortage.

$8-12K / $20/hour = 400 - 600 hours to buy that FRS
$3K / $8.75 = 342 Hours
$5K / $8.75 = 571 hours

The gap isn't as big as you think. I recall back in 2011, the black GSR on Revscene that I wanted was still $5K for 150 - 200,000KM. Sorted NA miatas were $4-5k

Can also confirm that F30 BMWs for $8-15K are super nice for the young folks. 2014 320is!

I think used car prices are comparable to the past when adjusting for inflation and salary, except we now have higher housing costs eating into people's budgets.

yeah derek in the video was making that counterpoint

disposable fund just isn't there for many with historic high col/student debt (which in some cases are forgiven and at least many here are interest-free)

just my 2c as someone <25yo

20/h is around 15/h post tax, so to make 10k its about 666h excluding other expenses.

None of my car friends have enough disposable income to justify an "enthusiast" car (8k for a beaten KA 240sx???) while my non car friends either have no interest in cars (preferring to transit) or are only looking at economical stuff like corollas, EVs, etc., not f30 bmws

Also cars don’t mean the same to kids as it did to us. Back then it was a real status symbol. Your car was pretty much everything. People respected the ride and you as an extension of that.

Kids nowadays are more interested in their social media spread. The car is only a small piece of their global reach. Not like us who basically only fucked around our immediate postal code

Back then the ultimate possession was your car, hence why we dumped every waking hour and penny we could rub together into them. Nowadays kids just see anything less than a premium ride as a shitbox that won’t get clout.

It's cause every kid has parents that have premium rides.

The median car you see on the road is easily $40-60K new MSRP
