That dealer is funny. It's like the new blue star where everything is at least double compared to everywhere else.

Manual tax should be offset by convertible credit in that case though.

I would fancy a drop top 355/360/430 with the gated box

driven those drop top astons and......... they feel wobbly. The V12 Cars do make a great noise.

Any long term comments on the golf r? I think they are worth looking at. Seems like a much better daily than type r and cheaper. AWD sure makes it more useful.

EA888 is a pretty stout engine, other than carbon build up, its pretty reliable i think. I never had any engine issues with my sportwagen in the 4 years i owned it. I also drove the piss out of it because its a lease and i didnt care.

4motion is good shit until you gotta pay for the diff fluids. Its still a good system, just expensive.

996 was mentioned a few pages back - i think it's a decent deal, and it's been up for a bit. Time to exploit no IMS receipts and AC trouble for a mid 30's offer

The G body is a sign that Porsche pricing has taken a hit. Guy waited just a bit too long. It wasn't very long ago that would have sold in a heartbeat. To me, 65k is still too much for that car. 50k is the spot.

The Cayenne has been for sale for months. Started w some bullshit cash only, no offers, this weekend only blah blah blah pricing. Still around, price is coming down. It's been wrecked BTW

Golf R's - I've said my piece. Mk7's and 7.5's are great cars. Prices are coming down. Simply a matter of choosing the generation, and the transmission that you want. There will be multiples of each combo to choose from. Only thing I would add is it's worth driving a GTI as well. Simpler cars, few more options to choose from. If you like sunroofs (I don't) they're available (and common) on GTI's Can't get em on R's

R don't have sunroofs? How's the dsg? Do they still fail or do they hold up now?

R's don't have sunroofs - none of them. the prevailing theory is body structure relating to rear drivetrain precludes it (for US crash certification).

Mk7's have the 6 speed DSG, 7.5's have the 7 speed (final drive is about the same). 7 speed maybe a little less clunky. Both reliable if maintained as per schedules. This gen DSG is pretty well regarded compared to earlier models.

the dsg on my sportwagen was clunky and even after a dsg service it was still kinda weird. it would occasionally lurch forward unexpectedly like it slipped out of gear or something. when youre really flooring it though, it works quite well and the shifts are lightening quick.

I heard the DSGs are reliable till about 400hp so it should be fine. But DSG fluid is like 1000 bucks and it needs to be done every 4 years or so. I think the mileage was like 60,000kms

What else do you suggest that's $25000- $30. That's few years old. Fun ish and daily able. Don't really need a sedan. Sort of wanna go full donk boomer and get a c5 c6 but then only 2 seats.

why not a slightly older STI or a WRX? its still highly functional and peppy. Otherwise just grab a lightly used FRS/BRZ/GR86 or a ND2 Miata

ND2 Miata / GR86 / Corvette / S2000

If you're considering a econ-sedan / wagon like the WRX and Golf R, I'd argue the Veloster N is 2-3x more fun than all the hatchbacks.

Cept that and N also hold their value due to there just aren't any around.

I would say Miata is fantastic, even the NC we had at our dealership before, fully stock, manual was plenty fun for what it is... and dare I say, quite a bit faster than my NA

It’s so fucked that these are considered “deals” now like wtf lol

When we all grew up you could get a 10-15 year old car for like 3000-$10,000 and it was still a great car, not a write off, not 500,000 miles, etc.

If you had $6000 to spend you could be looking at 30-40 different cars from older Buicks to dozens of imports etc.

Now kids either get brand new vehicles or 45k fucking golf’s? Lol what the fuck

^Inflation, covid, and shortages in the last few years.

We got rid of our 2016 Mini for peanuts(worked out to be around 11k) in 2019. A friend with a same year less optioned one got 22k for his a year and half later.

The car doesn't look like much, but the MK6 with the 2.5/5cyl and manual is a reliable powertrain. The old 5 cylinder sounds great at full throttle. The last Golf made in Germany. Great car for someone looking for basic transportation that feels more solid on the highway than a Civic, Corolla, or Mazda 3. Can't get much for 10K these days that isn't clapped out.
