Not sure if this is rebuilt titled car, but the frontend panel gaps look pretty bad and the rear bumper alignment looks odd. A normal Mazdaspeed would cost twice as much I suppose...

If you (or friend) are looking for a usable EV for around town, commute to work, grocery getter ... I'm seeing the BMW i3 with range extenders for like $13K for sale. With range extender, it has range for like 240 kms ... but account for battery degradation ~200 kms, which isn't bad. Apparently, it is made with some high end trimmings, was like $45K when new. The range extender is a weird concept, gasoline engine that is used to generate electricity to run the EV (not to run an ICE engine to run the car). I have a friend who had one as an early adapter back when it came out and he speaks very highly of it. Something like this would be a great 2nd car, not something to go to Whistler or Seattle, too small anyways. Got that weird rear door that opens ... but I guess it gives you a big opening.

Maybe someone who actually has one can chime in with real life experience and tell us whether it is the above or another BMW high maintenance vehicle. On paper and by reviews, it seems good for commuter.

We test drove one for shits and giggles and it's actually really nice inside and it drives well. Some one brought one to autox and they are actually decent.
