i3 - Carbon chassis car for 15g. now thats a deal. at least you'd know you'd have a higher chance of survival in a wreck.
also guys, pre owned plug in / full EV cars are GST only....... will be a nice little car for short around town commutes. they are very Zippy- they boasted in BMW training that these things are quicker than F80s 0-40 or so and can vouch how quick they are.
REX model gets rid of range anxiety, as the gas motor can run to charge the battery as you drive to keep you going.
Not a bad little car imo.

Does anyone have input on getting someone to code the REX engine to be ran as a normal engine, on command?
Can that little engine take that kind of work, any other drawbacks to this etc...

I looked into the i3 precovid as a baby step into ev, until their prices doubled during the pandemic. I was reading then that basically you can no longer use the BMW app to control the car, check range, pre heat, start, etc as the built in 3g sim was no longer supported. I'm not sure what happened to it now. That was one of the concerns + the platform is an orphan as the was never really a second gen so I'm not sure how hard it is to keep running, how good the battery is as it was first Gen tech

definitely pioneering tech with the i3 and i8 platforms.
the current "i Car" offerings feel... conservative in terms of overall engineering, but that in turn has won over more consumers than the initial iCars. Too quirky for most, but from an engineering standpoint, they did pretty amazing.
Quite questionable if there was even any profit made on the i3 and i8 brand new as they werent exactly flying off the shelves when new and had plenty of Manufacturer rebates.

Apparently, 2017 or later is better, it had a bigger battery option = more range, up to 200 kms range. Still, not something you'd go out of town with but a good commuter, grocery getter, soccer mom inexpensive EV. If you had that plus the REX engine ... could be useful. With REX ... it acts like a hybrid but not really. All you need is to go to a gas station to qualm the range anxiety.

I kind of want to buy this but I got no room. Just across the boarder. A costumer in Nanaimo owns one. Bought it brand new and still looks new. https://www.facebook.com/groups/SyTy...8825239175056/

The range extender is a weird concept, gasoline engine that is used to generate electricity to run the EV (not to run an ICE engine to run the car). I have a friend who had one as an early adapter back when it came out and he speaks very highly of it. Something like this would be a great 2nd car, not something to go to Whistler or Seattle, too small anyways. Got that weird rear door that opens ... but I guess it gives you a big opening.
Maybe someone who actually has one can chime in with real life experience and tell us whether it is the above or another BMW high maintenance vehicle. On paper and by reviews, it seems good for commuter.
For example, 2014, 105K Kms, $13K, with a 2nd set of wheels & Tires. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...8925244076706/ | i cant wholeheartedly recommend a car i wouldnt buy myself lol

My wife has a 2020 i3. We friggin love the thing.
It's really zippy, the turning radius is miniscule, it's laughably easy to drive (my dad is in his 80s: he jumped right in, drove around, and then perfectly parallel parked it minutes later).
Super solid BMW fit and finish and quality everything. Even our base model has front and rear parking sensors, everything just works awesome. Really lightweight for an EV, with the carbon fiber monocoque: 2900 lb.
Since day one we've charged to 100%, and without fail we get the full 250km of range every charge. We don't have the REx and prefer it that way: it's just another point of failure. We've taken this thing on road trips to Napa, to LA + Joshua Tree Park, no issues. Just take more breaks. Surprisingly roomy and comfortable inside, for the tiny footprint.
Rock solid reliability. Never had an issue in 3 years of ownership, knock on wood.
Body panels are plastic, Saturn style. I bashed the driver door into a bollard I couldn't see while backing out of a parking spot, and it buffed right out. Can't get dings either for the same reason.
Some mods I've done: - Blind spot monitoring / cross traffic alert was never an option, so I retrofitted a kit from Pioneer.
- Replaced the base model 6.5" screen (with huge bezels), with a 10" one off a 3 series; fabricated a bracket for that. Gained touchscreen function out of it! Coded that myself with BimmerTool (dongle was like $30 off Amazon).

Been following the model S for a potential daily. Apparently bat replacement is only $22K, so not too bad considering cost savings.

^ the free supercharging, I would think, is a BIG plus on a used Tesla. And I agree, Model S or nothing else from Tesla.
What is free supercharging worth if you purchased that with your Tesla?

Free supercharging was included with S,X models. Not sure if they still include it now. A 240v plug at home and mobile charger is more than enough if you can plug in at home.

If the person is ordering a Y, wouldn't they transfer over the unlimited supercharging too?
Future buyer of the used S could be hooped.

2018 onwards, you have to swap out the head unit (which I think means losing remote connectivity and nav function etc, if you care), if you want to do a straight screen swap. If you prefer to keep your original head unit like I did, then yeah, it's franken-mod time, dumpster diving into other BMW applications lol.
