how's the maintenance? are there even shops on the island to service it?
Maintenance is not bad. A service with an oil change from the dealer is a grand. Have an Audi dealership in Nanaimo and one in Victoria. Also, have a local guy who does some stuff at a better price. He was a mechanic at Mercedes for a long time. Right now the oil sensor keeps saying oil is low when it is not and the passenger door is having problems opening from the outside. Will be fixing those problems before the summer. Also had to replace the clutch a few years back for 10K and replace a shock that was leaking for 5K.

I've been looking to scratch the convertible itch, I haven't had a convertible in the fleet for a few years. I'm not shy of a risky bet so on January 28 I messaged the guy in North Van with the silver Boxster to check the car out. He read my FB message and ignored it. Yesterday he messaged back telling me "he'd had lots of interest, would be setting up a time for everyone to come look at the car, there will be a bidding war for it, and it would be bid up well beyond his asking price." Needless to say, I have zero interest in partaking in his bidding war.
Tonight I went and picked up this one. It was the one you want, old guy owned, well sorted with a binder full of service records from Juan's in Richmond.

You've had these before right? first thing to do, pop the bumper off, clean up the rads and shoot those grills black while they're out. Casual afternoon project that makes the car run cooler and look 10 years newer
then shoot the Joe Toth parts cannon at it. World renowned - but local! Joe is awesome.

congrats! im currently trying to scratch a very similar itch myself haha
i took this one out a few weeks back and i was convinced its time for a pcar
I can't tell what happened to that one.. was it originally black or they tried to go red. How do you have painted panels like that. Unless it was that divorce sale all red painted one.
Fuck that's a sick deal! Was there alot of interest?
Maybe I haven't been paying attention but never thought these things would be that far under $20k even for a rat bagged one.

w respect to snowfarmer and this car (and without knowing what he actually paid) this isn't a screaming deal $ wise. But the difference between buying a 10k car you don't feel good about and a 15k that gives off the right vibes when you look at it is worth it. That car has been for sale for a bit (albeit during winter) This seems like it was a "buy the owner" situation
I think it's well bought. I would go to the 986 market w 15k and try to buy the best one even if it's not the cheapest one.
red krypto - i'm likely going to post my 996 up in the spring if you want to get into the 911 market. there's no cheaper way to do so, short of a jap import tip car
Or you meet some girl at the club, cum inside of her, find out shes only in grade 12, so you buy a Prada bag for her to make things right, she finds out the bag is a fake and decides to have the kid

2017 is your magic year, battery got bigger there and range is 1.5 than the pre 2017 models ~180 kms + 110 kms on REX= 290 kms. This is a comparatively very cheap 2017 BMW I3 REX, $19K. Everything else listed is > $25K

That's about the going rate, I negotiated the price down from their ask. There usually seems to a lot of tiptronic ones available, not so many manuals. I didn't ask if there had been a lot of interest, they didn't list it the right way, when one filtered the FB search by vehicle, make, model it didn't turn up in the listings so I think awareness of the listing was low.
I was looking for something manual and convertible - E46 vert, a Boxster or maybe a Miata (there was a 2.5L swap NC Miata for sale that was pretty tidy.) There's not a lot of cars that tick the box for convertible AND manual transmission.
You’re spot on, it wasn’t a bonkers low price but has been well serviced with full documentation and all of the main Boxster issues have already been dealt with. Not the cheapest example on the market but the overall cost of ownership will be lower. I think these cars have depreciated as much as they will, there's a reasonable likelihood I can drive this car for a few years and sell it for pretty much what I paid for it. In the grand scheme of things, it'll be cheap fun.
