It’s funny man. The es350 that I drive daily is actually his. He found it too big so he gave it to my wife and I inherited it afterwards.

He stole her old 128i because it’s a good size for him. So smaller the better I guess

JDMDreams 03-25-2024 03:42 PM

I'm surprised cuz usually small = danger. Is350c. Old people usually will bitch small cars is hard to get in and out of, doors didn't open wide enough, have to climb in and seats are too low, can't get back up

bcrdukes 03-25-2024 06:14 PM

Fiat 500 :troll:

My narrow list includes
Is350 awd.
B58 340xi
Whatever trash Mercedes calls the C class now

I think the cheapest one here will be the is350 or the is300 (not sure which one I’m leaning towards as it’s sort of redundant given he’s an old man.. both v6 2gR-fks)

The b58 just because I don’t want a stinking 4 cylinder in a bmw. Hopefully with the Toyota influence that engine is reliable. It’s also the fastest one out of the bunch and probably best handling.

The merc is bottom of my list but he might want one because he’s an old man and he might appreciate the badge more.

X3 M40i

It's just easier to get in and out of for an old man.

AWD, 4 door, small, and peppy? Is your FIL me?

GR Corolla is the obvious choice lol.

JDMDreams 03-26-2024 09:20 AM

Golf r or gla45 with pops and bang tune

68style 03-26-2024 09:51 AM

I sat in the GR Corolla at the auto show and, while I knew it's just a standard Corolla interior, I had never say in a newer Corolla either... and I was borderline shocked how shitty it was... like they didn't even try to upmarket the materials feel at all.

I just assumed all the people on the groups bitching about it were exaggerating... but bleh... how that car costs mid 50's after tax or mid 50's+ tax for the Circuit is beyond me. I'm pretty glad I didn't wait for one, even if it is more practical for daily use.

0) IIHS have updated their crash tests again - more difficult side impact + front crash now checks for rear seat crash safety too. Lots of cars struggling.

1) For G20 3 series, static "M-sport' suspension on 330i made me car sick. Either get the comfort 330i or the M340i w/ adaptive suspension. F30 340i MPP drives like a boat.

2) Base Giulia rides with a level of compliance not found in any of the other cars; 2019+ for the refreshed interior, these are $300/mo lease specials in NY.

3) How about an A4 Allroad or S3/RS3? Resale will be really good on the RS3.

4) I didn't see Volvo on the list - get the single turbo motor, the seats/safety/tech are all amazing and easy to use; though the S60 is likely a bit big; Maybe an XC60?

5) Model 3?

=avoid list]
- The IS is really thirsty, cramped, noisy, bad seats, etc. I wouldn't consider.

- Genesis G70 also feels like a cut rate 3 series, did not like.

- W206 C-class is having a ton of quality issues at the moment.

I sat in the gr and it was shit, the regular Corolla has a better interior. I'm curious about Alfas for $300 a month. I was hoping to see the newer Alfas at the show

68style 03-26-2024 11:08 AM

You complain about BMW reliability and maintenance but you're interested in an Alfa... okay lol

Literally nothing has changed since 2019 when they got the updated interior. Brand is basically dead

I laughed out loud when I saw his post.

My reaction was like "Alfa?" :fuckthatshit: :lawl:

The only idiots dumb enough to even touch one is me and Badhobz.

The 2.0 is fine - it's the QV that has a ton of engine electronics/sensor issues.

whitev70r 03-26-2024 01:19 PM

Assuming FIL of Badhobz is an Asian retired boomer (maybe living in Richmond), unless he is dramatically different ... I'd place my bet on a Volvo. XC40?

68style 03-26-2024 01:48 PM

Literally the entire Richmond Autocross lot last weekend was just unsold Volvo XC40's

I was surprised they still carry a Y VIN# when I checked the windshields

radeonboy 03-26-2024 01:52 PM

The suspension on the Volvos aren't that comfortable - the rebound damping(?) shakes the car in an unrefined way when going over unleveled bumps. It isn't great in my vehicle or other current-gen Volvos I've tried - I would say the Germans and Lexus have Volvo beat in that department.

The Giulia is more reliable than average for the brand, but I'm not confident enough about them to recommend to a FIL. Hobz already has spy balloon to deal with and I'm sure he doesn't need the wrath of a spy satellite.

Badhobz 03-26-2024 02:23 PM

im the fleet manager for both families so less work the better. Thats why even though the IS300 or IS350 is boring and shit, it'll be reliable in the long run.

I dont think the old man is gonna drive that much or that that long, but ill probably take it over later down the line.

bcrdukes 03-26-2024 02:32 PM

He may as well buy the car he wants. :D

68style 03-26-2024 02:40 PM

Get him a Roma

JDMDreams 03-26-2024 02:50 PM

I sat in the polestar 2 and I'm like WTF is this shit, the interior is so cramped, all dash and center console took up so much space and it's super high, you sit like vertically in the back seat and there's like no headroom for how boxy the thing is. Vinfast interior feels better than that. Is definitely has more space and better interior than polestar.

There is also some structural shake coming from the back across a lot of bumps. Hard to un-notice after you notice it

headhunt3r 03-26-2024 03:05 PM

Does his 128i have sport seats I can pillage before you get rid of it?

bcrdukes 03-26-2024 03:15 PM

lol savage

If I recall, the car doesn't have sport seats. I did drive it last time at the Stock and Noob meet at KFC.

Edit: No fights ensued.
