I was jealous and didn't want someone else to be your bff

It's always crazy to see an old car of yours pop up for sale. I hated letting the Prelude go but cool to see that the guy who bought it kept it for 8 years. Originally my wife picked it up before I met her from I think Richmond Nissan back in 2009 or so.

Seeing the way the paint faded and rear arches started to rust confirms my suspicion that it was likely in a small accident and that the bumpers and passenger door had been repainted at some point.

Weirdly enough I was just there on Sunday test driving a CX-50 my gf is interested in one and I asked them the same thing. The sales guy said they are doing high end cars to supplement sales.

Translation = nobody is buying Mazdas haha

He said they only have 2 Miata's on their entire order list for the rest of the year and the CX-5 is the top selling vehicle right now... They are doing 1.9% financing on a lot of their stuff.

AstulzerRZD 07-17-2024 12:47 PM

They're getting the CX-50 hybrid now tho, which should fly off the shelves

To be honest I didn't do much research, was just appeasing her because she likes the styling... so I didn't even know a hybrid was coming. Do you know what the cost is? I think one of the big things getting in the way is that the cars are overpriced for what you're getting. The CX-50 GT Turbo is $54k after taxes and $1,000 discount.

The salesguy told me they have NINETY CX-50's in stock. NINETY!!! lol!!!

I can't imagine the Hybrid will be anything less than $10k over that price?? I mean no offense to Mazda but $65k is too much for what you're getting.

*edit just looked it up... 7.3 seconds 0-60 and 219hp? Drivetrain stolen right out of the RAV-4 Hybrid? Ugh I guess it will work for some people, but that doesn't sound enticing to me in any way. I hope my GF doesn't find out about it hahaha... looks like it's going to be about $52k based on conversion for the mid-model... so a little less than I thought because it's the lower spec engine package not a turbo.

Ah yes. So wayyyy back when I was selling my Maserati one of their Mazda sales manager answered my ad. He said he wanted a “show piece” to draw people to the dealership. They like having these high end vehicles to draw attention and interest to their dealership and I guess maybe sell them a Mazda ?

Weird sales technique.

Has she looked at the CX5 at all or does she only like the CX50?

I liked the cx50 when it first came out because it looked very muscular from the wide stance, as time goes on, I like the cx5 more now. Each dealer gets more cx5 than the cx50 as well so take that into consideration. Cx5 Japan made, while cx50 is US made. CX5 has better interior materials and independent rear suspension. The only thing that I can think of as pros for the cx50 is the exterior styling and the panoramic roof

The enormous plastic fender cladding from the cx50 really turn me off

Just saw your post that said they have 90 cx50, it's really not selling well as the cx5. For my commute, I see so many cx5s, rav4s, crvs and now model y as well

They've been doing this since 2020. Don't remember if it's the same owner, but Cowell VW was doing the same thing. At one point Mazda had a M4 GTS on their lot for 80K lol from AB.

Yah she likes the styling of the CX-50 and I kinda do too, but I agree with you I think it's not aging as well as I thought it would at first. She likes the plastic wheel arches, I agree with you also that the interior finishing/trims leave much to be desired.

She has mentioned looking at the CX-5 instead, I kinda poo-poo'd it because to me it's a super old design now, but I do like the fact it looks more athletic and visually smaller to the eye from the outside. It's only a tiny bit cheaper than the CX-50 too.

VW's found a lot of sales success moving mainstream and I feel like they have a similar buyer to Mazda
IMO a RAV4 hybrids that a buyer can get now instead of waiting 6-12 months with an awesome finance rate should be a really easy sell.

If I were a Toyota dealer, I'd use the RAV4 Prime/Hybrids to drive foot traffic then steer the mans towards a CX50 they can have today lol.
Might put Kia on the same lot to sell an EV9 or Hybrid Carnival instead of a 3 year wait for a Sienna.
Kia engine/transmission work would keep service drive busy too.

Pinging Hobz - this seems like a decent deal? The current owner even has a matching RX and a mansion based on that front gate + parking area.

Yeah it’s not a bad buy. Although that tan top and tan interior seems very old man ish combo.

Best combo, what are you talking about

bcrdukes 07-17-2024 06:32 PM

Sweet Jesus. :drool

JDMDreams 07-17-2024 06:34 PM

Yea I saw that post too. Too bad I don't want to drop $100k on a toy right now. Isn't that the classic colour, like the colour they used for the press cars?

Badhobz 07-17-2024 06:45 PM

Infrared yes and tan for the coupe concept. The convertible concept was white on white (crime)

Anyone else amazed that this shit is holding its value like insanely well ?!? 3 years and you only lost 30k off Msrp ? Like the equivalent 8 series of the same vintage is 70-80k and it was more money from the get go.

P.s. almost 8k for that ppf makes my 10k wrap seem justifiable.

I don’t trust a guy who drives 300kms to see some dead guy who isn’t dead and has a white m3 but claims it’s blue.

bcrdukes 07-17-2024 06:48 PM

This calls for a circle jerk.

JDMDreams 07-17-2024 07:57 PM

These will be tempting at $5-60. Should just settle for a used rcf at like $35000 or a new is500 for like $70?

Badhobz 07-17-2024 08:02 PM

Just buy the fucking LC you clown. You know you’re gonna feel inadequate if you show up with the is500 while my big garbage can LC is next to yours.

bcrdukes 07-17-2024 08:08 PM

RC-F for $35K? Is it rebuilt and flood-damaged from Toronto?

The Roma belongs to the owner of the dealership according to the sales guy I spoke to. I'd guess the others are probably his as well.
