Damn, he did the 190E design, grandpa to the w203, RIP

JDMDreams 09-29-2024 03:20 PM

Did he do w203 and w211? Those are the best. He did do the w220 that trickled down to everything. FeelsBadMan

JDMDreams 09-29-2024 03:21 PM

I still want to find me a r129 but Dem hydraulics issues

He certainly did do the w203, didn't do the w211, but the w210.

Sacco rose through the corporate ranks at Daimler-Benz over the next fifteen years, becoming chief engineer in 1974, before taking over from Friedrich Geiger as head of the Daimler-Benz styling center at Sindelfingen in 1975.[1][4] For the next quarter century, until he retired in 1999, he was responsible for the design of every Mercedes road car, bus, and truck.[5] Among his numerous works are the C111 concept car, three successive generations of the S‑Class luxury saloons, (the W126, W140, and W220), the R129 SL convertible, the C-Class W202 compact executive car, the W124 and W210 versions of the E-Class sedan, the CLK and SLK sports cars, the M-Class luxury sport utility vehicle, and second generation C‑Class W203.[1] Sacco made significant contributions to the design of the Mercedes W123, the best selling Mercedes-Benz ever,[6] as well as his very last design, the R230 SL convertible (in 1997).

been for sale for awhile.

i think it's well priced - but not everybody can get down without somebody else's project, especially such a major (manual) swap.

Cammisa just bought a CSI, and cut a new revelations episode about it - definitely bringing some eyeballs back to the E31 world

68style 09-30-2024 12:07 PM

I like how Cammisa used to at least say he struggled with the idea of featuring or attaching his name to a car he owned knowing that it would likely increase its value... but with the 850 he just straight up went for it. Buys one and then does a full feature on it after and now he can rake it in when he sells it lol

The Producer 09-30-2024 12:28 PM

he addressed exactly that in a recent podcast

he bought the car after the story was pitched

not defending it - just FYI

(not going to try to find the timestamp - they're too long, but it's here)

twitchyzero 09-30-2024 05:15 PM

was recently watching an older doug demuro review and one of the top comments was some guy struggling to sell his car shortly then after the video came out suddenly he sold it for 30% over ask lol

Patiently waiting for Doug D to finally do a 300zx video

I assume those are amazing in Vancouver? Super cheap too.

Any issues going to whistler with battery degen, cold weather, and snow?

The Producer 10-01-2024 06:51 PM

whistler is 120km for me. the e-golf will do 160?, less in the cold, less w the climb, less w the ski rack/box

e-golf users have told me they do it but i'd be worried. better coming home i guess.

thing is - as a day skier, there's nowhere i can leave it on a charger all day. no return trip juice = no bueno.

i wouldn't do a whistler day in anything w under 300km range.

it's too bad - the e-golf is the ideal electric vehicle to me. looks good, drives well.

whitev70r 10-01-2024 07:14 PM

Good for grocery getting, soccer mom driving, and out for an evening but travelling outside the city ... uh no.

twitchyzero 10-01-2024 08:35 PM

definitely have a safety buffer on sea to sky esp during winter...the heater (i assume no heat pump) would chip away at the range

JDMDreams 10-01-2024 08:50 PM

You can buy a Nissan leaf for 1/3 of the price and wrap it any colour under the rainbow and still have money left, same range. :nyan:

Will be dope when Lucid prices drop - imo they drive very similar to E39

I am drinking the coolaid for Lucid, and I like how they look. Just need to drive one to see if all the hype is real. Unfortunately wife wants a SUV, and a 600km+ range SUV from Lucid is going to get close to 200k imo

AstulzerRZD 10-02-2024 11:42 AM

they have great range as well but my beef is they charge kinda slow and you have to think about what % you plug in at.

GM/Porsche/Hyundai all do 250+ kW all the way to 70%
Lucid 50-80% is like 125kW average

twitchyzero 10-02-2024 12:54 PM

lucid owners probably doing most of the charging at home?

dark0821 10-02-2024 02:10 PM

so.... Ioniq 5 N then.... they should software it so it removes power to the front motor and have rear motor at 50% output... and squeak 550KM from the car

I say slow but it’s still 2X faster than TModel 3/Y from 50-80%

I think my personal benchmark for a ‘soulless’ EV is I shouldn’t have to think about charging - GM/Hyundai Kia/Porsche meet that bar today

^ saw that but I thought we're not allowed to post any R8's that is not gated?

But for that price, it does seem like a good buy. Only concern is that it's at a dealer on E Hastings.
