I think point is more Top trim Japanese always were missing equipment and refinement But what's different now is the Japanese reliability looks American: - RAV4 Hybrid/Venza/Prius/NX Battery Cable: 6-10k repair out of warranty, still happening with revised part - Tundra turbo blow up - Mazda 2.5T in CX50 require new valves, CX5 oil consumption - Honda 1.5T dilution and head studs/gasket (esp in Accord) - Honda/Acura J35 rod bearing in last gen TLX/MDX - Honda/Acura ZF9 failures So for some Japanese buyers, they get great resale value but poor major powertrain reliability, poor in car infotainment/features, uncomfortable seats, bad chassis balance? -Chrysler has Mercedes chassis with reliable ZF8, worked out most issues with Pentastar 3.6 and 5.7 V8. -BMW has reliable ZF8, B48/58 aren't majorly problematic. -Ford has fixed their 10 speed, Ecoboost 6 cyls and 5.0 mostly reliable. -Hyundai/Kia/BMW/MB figured out the EV thing |
I thought all the Germans are discontinuing their evs due to shit sales and unions. Mb eq got axed, no one is buying taycan, ix. Id is so shit they paused production and going broke. |
On Germany, their economy has hella structural problems. Their strong unions aren't gonna like change but it's gonna happen when GDP is dropping, cheap eastern Euro labour ain't so cheap, they've lost cheap energy, etc. On MB, their next gen EVs will just BE the "S class". EQS/EQE/whatever were branding so that any shitty first prototypes didn't affect mainline reputation. Looking up their platform cancellation, they're refining their current EQS platform, not doing an all new one. On BMW, they will keep their flexible architecture (ICE / Plug-in / EV) while slowly phasing in EV specific platforms (iX, Neue Klasse, etc). On VW, they're just low key fucked lol. Can't build hardware, can't built software, can't build services, have no self driving tech, etc. Their potential saving grace is investment in solid state batteries but for now, GM is kicking their ass. Low key, parts of the future are already here. Any cancellation just means they're pushing back full electrification from 2030 to like 2035-40. - 25k USD EV (Equinox) - 10-15 minute rest stop with 80% recharge on Ioniq (230kW charging), we have 5-10 minutes already (VW/GM 350kW charging) and Solid State on the horizon (500kW) - Charging stations at each gas station (many in US have both Tesla, Electrify America, AND gas) - Hella savings compared to gas |

My bet is the motor is about to say so long and goodnight at that price but worth a look. |
Even if it pops there seems to be loads of support for putting all kinds of different engines in. LS, K series, 06A Audi/VW, etc. Or just part it out. I'll buy the front brake calipers. |
Who is going to buy the other 98% after you buy the calipers? |
Sold so who bought it |
Oh my ... 2015 MB long roof, E63 AMG ... I'd sign my kids up for soccer so the Mrs can take them to practice in this. https://www.facebook.com/share/sAYw7UMqjqxK9MAi/ https://scontent.fyvr2-1.fna.fbcdn.n...Sw&oe=6726D7E6 |
I haven't looked into it but I wonder if that Gen has problems? It's early hot v wasn't it? The older V8 turbos have bore score. |
M157 doesn't just have bore score issue, also has timing chain issues along with the usual MCT trans problems. |
The newer 4.0 V8 isn't that nice to drive - has weirdly surgy power delivery, a lot of lag. Not something that makes me want to drive it more ... idk why ppl fanboy over it |
Oh, I know nothing of the internals, I've never even driven one but I see you have some experience with MB E63 AMG so I trust your opinion. I just love the look and heard one on the street one time pull away and the exhaust note ... wow!! |
I still think they're full of character and fun to drive for a daily, just gotta go in with a warranty / awareness of the risk. The Ferrari FF is another one of these - crazy fast, practical, and now attainable but $$$$$$$ failures always on the horizon CTS-V wagon is a comparable and reliable experience with the V8 but the manual values went to the moon |
