Okay yah… but you’re still giving advice to people based on that???

Richmond Honda has them too. Automated tire wear and alignment check as you drive in.

1.) Same reason increased use of AI is likely to reduce critical thinking; Because the computer said so.

2.) If he didn't, probably would get dinged for not upselling a service.

Yah it was at Richmond Toyota before I moved lol

trollface 02-11-2025 06:32 AM

If you're not selling, you're getting canned.

That is a hard sell over 50% worn is nothing. If it was like over 85-90 percent worn then sure.

I bet if customers change their tires at 50% worn, techs would gladly take those home. lol.

I'm curious about the setup on that tech, like is it smart enough to know what the tread depth is supposed to be new? cause if its just assuming all cars have 12-14mm tread and you roll in in a supra it would make sense that they say 50% cause they are probably 7-8mm new on the performance tires

trollface 02-11-2025 10:13 AM

Your downfall is assuming the point of said machine is to give accurate measurements so consumers can make informed decisions and not a sales tool to extract money from the uninformed in any way possible.

I had the same thought too, it's not the same tire to tire

Seems like making something pretty simple more complex by adding/using AI to detect tread depth. Good old tread gauge with that needle point works just fine.

^^ like in the case of BMW E90 E92 M3 where they took away a simple oil dipstick and made it electronic....or one time use brake pad sensors...

That TSX wagon that was originally $18k is now $13k - I'd call that a very good deal unless something is real bad with it. Someone please buy it.

Is this fake ? I’ve never seen an lc below 60k in the USA. This could be a really good deal if it’s legit.

Why does this look AI generated

That's probably close to $75 Cad registered on the road here...

Badhobz 02-18-2025 07:15 PM

Isn’t that still cheap though ? 36,000 miles ain’t bad.

Yes, it definitely looks like it. I haven't watched prices (because poor), but locally, there's one for ~$80+tax, which is close to $90k after tax.

Legacy Outback for 3500. If the engine head gasket has been done recentlyish as ad says, should be solid AWD winter beater?
