Probably linglongs with maxpeepeerod coils and no alignment haha. When I had PS4s I honestly had a hard time getting the car sideways. Easier with the R1R but mainly cause it's a square setup and fronts are so grippy compared to the staggered setup.

Aight, I'm convertible shopping for the summer.

1) Must be cheap; 10-15k USD budget, maybe 20
I'm going to street park it, probably won't carry collision or comprehensive insurance.e

2) Must be interesting; should offer a good driving experience

3) Must have decent image / brand.

Any ideas I'm missing ... and how terrible are these to own?

1) 996.1 C4S Convertible 6MT
Bore scoring issues?
https://carsandbids.com/auctions/9nb...b62&ref=pr_1_1

2) V8 Vantage (the manuals are in 30k range)
Automated manual can't be converted to a stick shift; 4k clutch replacements
https://carsandbids.com/auctions/9Q2...b8d&ref=pr_1_1

3) 2015+ Cooper S JCW (B48 + 6MT)
https://www.edmunds.com/mini/cooper/...67/?radius=100

4) R107 + rear bench
Heard R129 is a total pain; the many computer modules can't be found for repair

I have ZERO butt time in any of the cars you mentioned above.

But everyday I wake up, I missed my NA Miata, of all the cars I've owned, Miata is in a class of its own. It was loud, responsive, and most importantly SLOW AF...

I can WOT 1st -> 2nd -> and you will be doing something like 80kph....

You can dance the throttle in any corner, and it was so forgiving... I thought I was a god, but I know it was all car, no driver skill.

Press the pedal a bit deeper the rear steps out super gradually, you lift up a tiny bit and the read comes back around.... it was magical!

Also also, consumables are basically free at this point... lolol and you drive it like your stole it and it gives you like 11L/100KM

Model S 2013 - 160,000KM - $13K

If legit, wtf? Someone hates Musk/Tesla that much? Or with 160,000KM on it, its simply market value?

Not finding any other Model S's for under 25K so far.

It is much, much, much more fun to push a slow car 9.5/10 on mountain roads, than to push a fast car at 5/10 on those same roads.

Price wise, spec matters a ton
Narrow body 996 are in the mid 10s, wide body in the mid 20s, but targa are still in the 30s, and turbos still in the 40s
Aston are low 20s for V8 and high 20s for V12s now
Ferrari California are 50k

Yeah... younger me would be in horror about older me shopping brands a bit
Can't do MB or BMW cuz it's giving Long Island / South Brooklyn Trump supporter
Japanese is giving Queens / Jersey and probably an Uber driver
Audi, Volvo and Porsche are acceptable middle-upper class Manhattan cars

A bit of both....
If they're in Whistler for a season, they probably own property there.
At the same time, early Model S do have a TON of inevitable problems.

Large RWD rear motors in S70 almost always fail, must get a "D" model to avoid.
Unclear if the MCU was replaced which is a 3-4k repair for the screen/computer unit.
Suspension arm / air suspension failure.
Door handles at 1k a pop.
Battery BMS is terrible, pack replacement in 6-7 years is common (this one had it done).

Pre 2021 Tesla means no heat pump, limited regen when cold and hella range loss from heat.
No "autopilot" also means no adaptive cruise control.

The NA spec E36 M3 isn't well appreciated universally but I did enjoy driving it around town more than my E46 now due to how much more torque it has in low RPM range.

That Tesla Model S $13K, use it as a DD commuter, the great thing about that one is the Free Lifetime Supercharging!

You just gotta be creative in 'rebranding' it

He's dropped the price considerably. This FB one was posted 19 weeks ago for $19,900. For the new lowered price of $13K, hell buy it and drive it back to Vancouver and flip easily $5-8K more. Or use it as a trade in to reduce PST for ICE car.

I wouldn't really want an auto vantage and you're only getting the V8 for that money. What about the forum favourite grantourismo? Best sounding out of all of them echoing through the sky scrapers.

I would suggest also sc430 if you want class and reliability, Nd with rf top, or sl/ slk/ clk if you can find an AMG model

I haven't had any experience with the turbo Honda, I'm mostly experienced limited up to k24.
I have a manual itch that I want to scratch but not sure what I want. Something cheap to throw around occasionally. Miata? But then miatas aren't really cheap no more. EP3 type r? Or save up more for fd2, gr Corolla. But that this rate given the trumpsession I don't really want to throw around money.

  • Power. Auto revmatch is fantastic btw and unlike other Hondas, you can put this thing in 1st and it'll roll itself for quite a while. I think it has an anti-stall feature. Downside is that revmatching yourself is not as satisfying as past Hondas. For 3 years, I used autorev match instead of doing it myself. Ironically, now I only turn it on for track but keep it off on the street. When auto revmatch is on, there is a lot more revhang and delay in throttle response.
  • Reliable. It's so reliable/boring I'm dreaming of another BMW. The only thing I've replaced due to age is the door sensor - $5 part, one 10mm.
  • Good on gas. Stock is 475-510/tank on a 42L tank.
  • Carry literally everything and anything you want. How do people regularly bring wheels and tires (if separated) to get mounted? Two trips?
  • For the most part, it's pretty comfortable too. Adaptive suspension is a blessing, but mines on the way out so there isn't a drastic difference between all the modes anymore. That said, replacement shocks are EXPENSIVE. OEM only. Coilovers will have to be the budget play when that time comes.

If you get one, don't get an intake - keep that stock. If you want some woosh noise, put in a K&N drop in filter. A light "stage 1" or "stage 0.5" tune does wonders for the car (+42HP; +72FTLBS) and you only lose 40km of range.

Re: Exhaust, it lowkey kind of drones even with stock exhaust, but don't put on a catback.. you can ask hobz about his experience lol. Earplugs required with cheap catbacks. That said, stock exhaust + downpipe sounds pretty good.

If you test drive one, make sure it's on stock wheels and on a nice day. Anything other than, will be an incorrect assessment of the car. The engineers did some crazy magic that the car is fabulous out of the box - in stock config. Or shoot me a PM after April and we can do a S2S run or smt. Honestly, the biggest downside to the car is how good it is. It makes it hard to justify getting anything else cause the performance limit is quite high. It's a very no drama car tho, it has no soul, it just works.

Toying with the idea of trading into something else.. so long as I'm not spending more money right? But dark had a point, I wouldn't want the M2 as the forever car.

Hunting for cars is where Autotrader is handy sometimes. Set it to nationwide, use the filters for stuff like manual/price range/age/number of doors/etc and see what kinds of things pop up. Then know you can usually find whatever model for a bit cheaper on CL or FB.

$39,500 gets you a manual V8 Vantage at least. https://www.autotrader.ca/a/aston%20.../19_13045101_/

Does that matter in the long run? no, not really since i would argue the experience is in the great handling and the noise, but you can do the manual swap for around 10k and then you got a manual Ferrari v8 ala the last f430 for about 40-50k all in and done (including a 40k decent condition GT).

Upkeep and parts is another issue though. even 3rd party mechanics might be expensive due to the parts. For example, the OEM coolant hose for example could run you ~800 bucks depending on which part of the hose is cracked. This said hose was also redesigned in 2013 and is a lot more robust in the later years. Anyways just get a 2013+ one for added security.

I'm hearing...

- either get a 2016+ with the ZF box and the updated interior
- 2013+ with the updated front bumper and valved exhaust
- or 08/09 GTS with the valved exhaust, dry sump and do a manual swap when the f1 clutch needs work

Or save up more for fd2, gr Corolla. But that this rate given the trumpsession I don't really want to throw around money.
CSX-S with bolt ons is a pretty good buy. My friend just sold his for 11? 14? That thing was a hoot. Should have sold the Type R for it tbh.

K24 in the 9th gen civic si was kinda meh. The CTR is kinda like that too.. but instead of waiting for the miniscule "VTEC" in the 9th gen to kick in, you get boost. And you also don't wait.

I'd say sub 80K km CTRs if they're around 35K would be a good buy. The suspension would still mostly working. Anyway, if you ever wanted to try it, feel free to shoot a pm.
