tbh I really do think it's a family wealth thing ; these friends' parents are paying for it.
me personally, total car expense has to be less than 10% of after tax income if leasing or less than 10% of net worth if financing.
Based on this...
- I can do 700/mo USD
- 40k USD
so really I can only afford a lease deal Lucid Air or a used 997

^ Come see me and we can make it happen.
I sold one earlier this month with 1% royalty though.
$1700 due on delivery
$980 taxed in.
(total out the door payment including all fees and taxes, nothing else)
Without royalty, it will still be under $1100
=)

That said, I haven't had extensive time with it like I have in the tuned F10 535i ("520i"), lowered on BCRs. The transmission does feel a little slower or at least not as intelligent, even with a transmission tune. Throttle response / pedal dead zone is quite a drastic comparison too. It could be the extra weight, but I doubt it. I'm not sure which one's faster tbh. Haven't tried a full launch in the F36, but the F10 does throw you back harder.
Not sure if there's a MPE for MPPK from factory, but this burbles in "Sport". It's quite good from the outside. Not too obnoxious like the 5er, it's very subtle but you can hear it. I'm pretty sure there's pumped in exhaust audio, but I don't mind it and I wouldn't mind not having a catback. Or maybe it's cause I haven't daily driven in 2 months and having driven the past two days has tortured me.

It's less so about the powertrain but more about the overall driving experience.
F30’s feedback is a serious problem. Even though it's lighter and has the same gearbox as the Dodge warship I was in, the F30 felt totally numb and out of control. The on-center slop was insane, making the car feel huge.
I was ripping that LSB F30 MPPK back to Linda's to grab the DJ set before my boat party we were at, and honestly, you need a little feedback to know you're doing it right.
I feel totally comfortable getting into a variety of G20 M340i or any V8 Charger/Challenger and ripping it; F30/80 don't give me that feeling.

Have you tried a MK8 golf gti (sorry hobz. true depiction of different cars for different people)? The "sport" feedback is so much worse... there's nothing. It's like a regular 9th gen civic, even my type r in comfort has more feedback.
Yes, the F30 has it's faults in feedback. The steering is way too fake heavy/assisted in Sport, especially at low speeds. It's definitely classic BMW with the variable steering feel, but much heavier. Like most other products, it would be great if you could do comfort steering (which isn't that bad. Comfort should be sport. Sport feels like R+ in the Type R), sport engine/trans and sport suspension (tho most sport suspension I still find too bouncy. Some sections of S2S or Hwy 1 I like to do in comfort).

Sorry for what bro? It’s exactly how most new cars are. All the steering is numb and completely dead. Hell even that 992.2 feels dead. Very light and lacking texture. Ratrolla is dead too.
Best steering feel is my wife’s old 128i. That had great steering.

Or maybe it's cause I haven't daily driven in 2 months and having driven the past two days has tortured me. | You should try a G20 if you have a chance. Other than the fact that it didn't have the M power S code engine, the G20 330i I got as a loaner felt every bit like my F80 M3 in terms of driving feel and suspension, which is a huge departure from a base F30 320 or 328
Not all ZF8 are the same, even in the same chassis. We had a 2019 X3 which I feel is tuned towards more of a comfort setting. Then one time when the X3 went in for service and I got a 2021 X3 as a loaner. That car with the same engine and transmission, felt much snappier. The engine was a new revision and I guess the transmission as well. It would snap off shifts much brisker than mine did. We are talking probably millisecond differences but it was a huge deal and made the drivetrain feel much sportier.
Our X5 has that same lazy shifting that our 2019 X3 has, so I would say it's probably a tranny logic thing.
The MPE on the 335 and 340 sound quite good, throaty but not obnoxiously loud. Not like the F80 MPE which would wake the dead while sounding mostly terrible. Quote:

I was looking to buy a very low mileage 335 M Performance (3 years old, 12k km) and on the test drive it felt like I was going to slide all over the place in the rain.
When I picked up my M3 I had the same feeling but only when wet. I'm going to wonder aloud if it's mostly tire related. The PSS on the M3 wasn't particularly good in the rain, and I didn't know what the 335 had for tires.

I've tried the G20 330i when I dropped both E46s off for airbag recall but I didn't find it all that exciting. No EDC either I assume. That said I was also overwhelmed by tech and the auto folding mirrors tripped me out. Took me like 10 mins to leave the dealership.. someone had to come out to help me lol noob.
So oddly enough, I hate the F30 335i.. however the LCI F3X 40i's was a huge LCI update. Interior quality is still shit tho. But everything else was shockingly better than anticipated.

I don't get how ppl do the numbers, $1100 a month just on a car payment, then you add like $300 on top for insurance, $200 for charging/ gas on the low end. That's $1600 already. On just car. Add in $2000 a month rent to live like a poor person, cuz you sure ain't getting anything nice for $2000, more if you own and have to pay strata/ insurance. $1000 on food, misc Netflix, Spotify, Amazon prime. That's $4600 net a month. X12 = $55200 a year. On a $100k income you take home about $71924 according to Google, so you have $16724 a year left for misc which is $1393 a month. |

Owning a new car is simply not a thing for average people anymore. It's shitty to think that's the case.

The Base Mk7 on 195mm 15s actually has very natural weighting and a hint of feedback even though it's on ecotires (Ecopia 422)
- Variable ratio steering reduces road feel.
- Wider tires & heavier wheels have higher inertia, reducing fine feedback
- Wide tire have slower slip angle response, reducing on center feel
- VAQ diff adds an extra layer for feedback to filter thru
- More negative camber reduces feedback when the tires aren't loaded up

FWIW on economy cars, Ford EU did an amazing job with the Ford Fusion ... and with the Mach E GT. 3rd gen Mazda 3 was also quite good.
They feel very alive with almost too much road texture, excellent on center weight/precision, without being overly heavy.

Some reviewers criticised it for being out of place for a commodity grade compact SUV.

Yeah that and the CX90’s slow steering ratio got a ton of complaints
Mazda and Porsche need to swap steering engineers

Car payments keep people poor. Imagine dumping $1,500 a month into an index fund instead of a depreciating asset.
