If he already did a dry/wet compression test and they're reading 60/120psi across the board, it's more than likely the rings. There's no way to know how bad the block is until the head is off. If he did the head work him self, he should've noticed if the bores were scored or there was excessive ridges.

That seller for the Monte Carlo Blue ITR is pretty rude. His English is horrible and basically said if you are serious come give a deposit to show it, as he is a very serious seller, yet he doesn't even post his number on the ad or share it via email voluntarily.

That blue ITR has been around forever. I remember meeting an owner in like 2005 at an ITR meet when it had the Mugen front bumper. Couldn't remember if it was a legit Mugen piece. It would be worth a ton nowadays. For the price it would make an amazing track toy.

I recall the owner who had the body and paint work done posting on RS that it was originally a legit and complete kit, but that later owners took off a few parts. And like White Rocket said, legit Mugen parts are worth a ton to the right people nowadays. I see that ITR as a potential steal, especially with a little work to bring it back to its former glory..

mileage is high, but condition looks good from the pics. but i've seen 98specr's go for half this price at auction with less on the odometer...

i can't remember who is it here that owns one of these but maintenance and repair can be complicated and expensive... the clutch comes to mind for example. i looked at one almost a decade ago and was told by a mechanic it would cost $2-3k in parts and labor to replace the clutch, pressure plate, flywheel and bearing. it had a fresh paintjob and claimed no rust, but the mechanic who did my inspection saw right through it. the sunroof opening had rust inside, as did the door jambs, rear hatch where the gas struts are mounted to, and the sheetmetal around the front bumper.

having said that, the mileage is low on this one, as the one i looked at 10 years ago almost had this much.

have everything checked carefully.

^ I've got one, they can be great cars but some of the maintenance costs can be high if you don't DIY so many of them are a bit neglected. They're really very simple to work on but due to the layout some things can take more time to get to hence the higher shop costs.

If anyone's interested in it PM me and I can run you through the common things to check for (or I can post it here if enough of you are interested), some of them are very cheap/easy fixes that can be used to knock the price down, others are big costs that may make you want to run away if you don't like DIY.

Just got back from looking at this car.
Its been sitting for 2 years and the owner recently died. The current seller aquired it [got for cheap?] and knows little history.

Exterior 4/10 [needs repaint, but no rust]

Interior 7/10 [no rips, but worn armrest/door panels/no leather]

Engine ?/10

Engine:

CEL light on, bad o2 sensor
Idle is real low around 400
Misc oil stains on rear of engine and tranny
Decent amount of blow by when oil cap removed, and releasing this crankcase pressure caused the engine to DIE... I didnt have a compression tester with me, but thats enough blow by for me to know its going to be expensive
Possible coolant leak when hot, didnt really look into this

This car is more of a project imo. Just wasn't what I was looking for.

I've been looking for one of these cars for a while, it was my first car when I was 16 and have regretted selling it, but working for min wage wasn't gonna cover the cost of upkeep at the time.

Hidden rust can be an issue. That's plenty of a list you got there, but overall the M103 engine is really great. It's more like tranny, syncro, 4matic, suspension issues that are the problem.

I've posted about them a few times, if you search you can find some posts I made talking about mine I had for a few months and lots of $$$ later...

But I still want one again...
