I just kept it on there from minor hockey!:fullofwin:

LOL that's awesome :lol

Ended up taking the 964 up to Whistler for the week. Weather was terrible for skiing but absolutely a hoot for cruising the S2S up to Pemberton on our non-ski days.

No, I posted on RS Chat that the car has had a misfire that the previous owner tried, but was unsuccessful, in fixing which the dealer doesn't want to deal with from a mechanic who works for them. I wonder if whoever the owner is now found out about it..

CRS 02-16-2015 12:04 AM

:lol

Reading all these awkward encounters reminds me numerous conversations I've had with the GF.

Me: Oh, I've heard some good reviews for (insert restaurant).
GF: Who'd you hear it from?
Me: Just read it online.
GF: Revscene?
Me: Revscene

Went to check out this nsx
First up owners is pretty chill lets me inspect and do a compression test!

The goods
-The body is nice, although its been resprayed with blue flakes which is visible when the sun hits it.
-The interior is mint minus the center console (a NOOB moment for me if you look at the seats it looks like a fixed bucket but its actually reclinable. lol! )
-There is no play on each side of the wheels
- Further inspection all the lower/upperarm/bushings/ ball joints looks good (which is very crucial to this car because In my research they are not cheap!!)

Now the bad
-The clutch and the leak
-The leak is actually not from the valve cover, but the cam plugs which is close to the valve cover
-Additional oil leaks from the oil pan and the cam seals
-The center console is cracked and damage
-The driver side toe arm the boot on the ball joint is ripped, although there's no play yet -Started the car up and at idle it surges (in my Honda this symptom can be from air in the coolant system or the IACV/FITV I don't know if nsx has those components)
- I can also feel it misfire a little checked the spark plugs and they definitely need replacing

Now the compression test
The reading on head close to the front were (200,200,200) The rear were a little disappointing! :( It was (190,180 ,120)
I redid the last one just in case I didn't put the tester right and it only bumped to 130
(prior to the test when i remove the coil and spark plug on that cylinder there was rust residue all over!)

Overall the body and suspension are in great shape, but the motor is not 220k miles finally taking its toll!

Again thanks to the owner for letting me check the car as I was pretty serious on getting it I even brought a diposit!

Ahh bummer! I wish you could have picked it up. I wonder what kind of money it would take to get it all tip top again. In the long run it could still end up being worth it. For low 30s or less if he's flexible on price you could have an nsx and a refreshed engine.

heleu 02-16-2015 10:40 AM

I still think that is a pretty good deal. Even with clutch replacement, that's still under $30K for something that is drivable.

I'm sure if that was posted on NSX Prime, it would be sold pretty quickly. $20K USD can't even get you a rebuilt NSX these days.

1991 Honda Civic DX Hatchback

Cheap $300 EF, just needs to have the clutch replaced. Good for those who can DIY and want a cheap beater

If the aircare site was still operational, at least I could get an idea what the mileage is.

You would disregard the low compression on one of the cylinder and fix the clutch and the leaks ( btw the cam seals is right around the timing belt so might aswell do the TB/WP)
I dont know about you but i would want the full 270hp kicking and screaming under there because that nsx needs it lol

My guess would be north of 10k to get it in tip top shape
But the thing is I was suppose to pick up a wreck nsx prior to checking the red nsx.
I would have picked up the red nsx first if the compression was good and grab the wreck nsx later on.
But wee are still in contact and if he doesnt get the price that he wants his gonna give me a shout

white rocket 02-16-2015 11:29 AM

Thanks for posting that info jackp0t. I had been eyeballing that NSX for a minute and definitely considered it due to the price. Great to know that info moving forward. Still a decent deal considering what else is available across North America. As heleu said, rebuilds usually sell for more and I'd certainly take higher mileage over one with a previous D&R, even with the required repairs present.

heleu 02-16-2015 12:12 PM

Ugh, I would have bought this NSX a few years back, but I can't now because I need a 4 seater.

I think I'll wait until our dollar rises back on par and look south of the border. I can probably afford my "hobby" car then...

white rocket 02-16-2015 12:22 PM

Yeah, the exchange rate has put a big wrench in my 2015 vehicle plans :(

Missed the convo about meeting RS'ers IRL, but I have an amusing one from many years ago.

Was drinking with friends at Big River in Richmond behind Silvercity before a movie. When we were crossing the street to the theater, I noticed a unique red DelSol drive by. Since I was pretty buzzed, I ran down the street towards it yelling 'TYPE-R-NAMMER!' repeatedly. I was surprised he heard me, the DelSol hit the brakes and backed up. We awkwardly exchanged greetings and a few moments of .
