Depends on what is wrong with it. Track days put heavy strain on a vehicle so if there are potential problems they will show up quick. Aesthetic appearances are fine for track whores but mechanical reliability is key.

My ITR was the exact same thing.
15 minutes into the first session, burned up all the oil and spun a rod bearing.

Pretty much. I drove back from PR with a busted clutch and thankfully made it. Honda FTW! I'd imagine that's why some choose to have a track only car so downtime isn't a problem for day to day transportation.

Honestly, as I get older, having the trailer and an SUV to tow with is a great thing.
Auto tranny, AC, soft comfy seats, and HID headlights for night time driving.
And in the case of the CRX, powersteering FTW.

I broke the ITR at ORPT. $1000 bux later, that was a scary 10 hour drive home in a Uhaul. Luckily for me, the track day was on a saturday and I had all day Sunday to drive home.

yeah, breakdowns far from home scare me. If I get back into it enough I'll consider buying a trailer and use the 4Runner to tow. Then the wife and baby can come too! And they can take the 4Runner somewhere if they get bored.

Do none of you guys have BCAA? Seems a lot cheaper than running a tow rig.

BCAA won't fully cover you if you break down far away from home.
BCAA Premium only covers 2 tows a year up to 320 km's.
Compare Membership Types | BCAA

Pacific Raceways is 238 km's to the truck crossing.
Ridge is 319 km's to the truck crossing
BCAA would work for these 2 tracks.

PIR is 450 km's to the truck crossing.
ORPT is 578 km's to the truck crossing if you don't take I5.

I guess you could use BCAA, but I can guarantee you it wouldn't be one tow truck driver driving you all the way back to Canada if you broke down at PIR or ORPT.
So that means break down on Sunday, home by Monday night (maybe)

And, like I said. Leaving work late friday night and driving all night to sleep in your car at the track is no fun.
AFter spending all day in the sun and trying to drive home Sunday night sucks too. I'm not 20 anymore and would gladly take an extra day or 2 to come home safe and sound.

Pic is RHD... plate in background is (maybe) not BC... I assume it's just a generic photo? Was this the same one that was FS in Chilliwack a little while back?

check for dry rot and flatspotting in the the tires and condition of anything else with rubber, and a compression check, or at least scope out the cylinders to see if the walls have glazing.

Right, but it would get you close enough to home to organize a tow the rest of the way without breaking the bank. I'd have to be doing a lot of track days with a temperamental car to justify owning and maintaining a tow vehicle and trailer just for that.

I'm not sure what that has to do with using a tow vehicle, you can sleep in hotels and take your time either way.

some things to help with searching even though most of it is timing

-if you hit your spacebar once in the search box and hit search it will usually bring the most current results up, found a $500 crf250r this way before the vultures

-change search terms eg I am looking for a Toyota 4runner. I search 4runner, then forerunner and finally Toyota runner and have found deals this way.

-the search terms "blown" "project" "mechanic" have gotten me a couple deals

-Always phone when possible

Damn, other than the colour, that is amazing! Tan on bronzit haha. The antithesis of the holy grail of colour combos. If its in decent mechanical shape suspension, bushing wise, etc it would make an amazing autocross/track car with some 15s and some sticky tires.
