I am tempted to call him though. Can't go wrong at that price for a toy 911 if the damage isn't too bad.
But does it have turbo?

Its funny to see how majority of people get scared off by rebuilts, yet when you ask them specifically why, they cant really come up with a straight forward answer. Word of mouf, couple shitty car encounters at local kingsway dealership generalizes the whole title i guess.
Not saying people should buy all rebuilts with confidence, but there are actually handful of well done ones. Not really talking out of my ass, I deal with rebuilts and icbc every day. Ive seen more than a handful of questionable write offs by icbc.
Hell if i was looking for a nice non-beater-ish daily car, id totally look into well built rebuilt. Much rather drive a properly rebuilt tsx, than a pos civic with a clean title thats still worth nothing

The problem people generally have with rebuilts are, you don't know what sort of history / story is behind the car to cause it to become a rebuilt. As people, we generally don't like dealing with unknowns.
I agree that rebuilts don't necessarily mean they are crap -- cars could get written off for a variety of reasons, and sometimes, those reasons could be entirely trivial. But the thing is, if you have to find out, is it really worth your effort?
For a lot of people, the discounted pricing is not worth their trouble, so they don't bother with them.
Another problem is honesty. If the seller told you that the car's frame wasn't damaged even though the car was written off, how much do you (or can you) believe him? Hiring a mechanic for inspection can generally reveal a lot of stuff, but they, as good as they are, they are not infallible either.
If there is a collision free example of the same car for only a little more, would you still go for a rebuilt? Some would, and some wouldn't.

My problem comes down to what if I want to sell it? No one else wants it, so I'm stuck with a car sitting around. Look at Illegal's car on here. It looks great, it has a non sketchy documented history of the rebuild and he's had it for sale for a year for like 10k under the market value of a clean titled s2000 of the same spec and its still sitting around. Thats a shitty situation to be in.
Edit re: aston
Lol 90k. You could buy a fucking late 2000s vantage for that and no one would have any idea it wasn't a 2015 since they have all looked the same since 2001.

What I've noticed is that when they're first listed for sale, the discount for rebuilt is so minor, I'm not sure what the owners are thinking.
Not until after months of no sale is when they drop the price to realistic rebuilt listing prices then prospective buyers begin the investigations which lead to further price drops needed to make up for _______.
If I was to ever buy a rebuilt, it would be a car I kept forever or drove into the ground. I wouldn't want to deal with selling one, ever.

Its true, Most people would rather save themselves from the headache. But i mean, if you really are into cars and know what you are doing. Its worth the check. Of course this is only if you are planning to keep the car for a while.
I guess im just in a different loop.. There was a beautiful 2001 B5 S4 that came up on icbc auction a while back, it was written off because the oem avus wheels were stolen off it. Dealership sells these for more than what the car is worth so icbc decided to write off the car.
btw, B5 s4 17" Avus's go for $500 on ebay |
