Ah, I'm familiar with that beautiful Prelude. I don't think he would go for it, though; he's comfortable with a modified car but not a heavily modified one.

my friend used to own this car, and he sold it to this guy. It has had a rear quarter panel accident, fixed privately. It has frame issues, and some rust bubbling on the rear quarter panel. IIRC he sold it for 16k. He told me to tell everyone to stay away lol

2005 BMW M3

Also beware of this car. The guy who purchased my E46 M3, went to check this car out prior to mine. The seller gave him a carproof, but he decided to purchase a carproof for himself to be sure. He found out the car has had frame damage on the carproof. He also had the car inspected and was deemed a bad purchase. just an FYI

This was posted a few months back ... I thought it was in Surrey, though. And like $19k

Seems scammy/trolly

TouringTeg 05-28-2015 07:57 PM

Considering what has been posted lately for S2000's this isn't too bad. 2001 AP1 76kms. Has an accident but clean title. $15,000 They listed this the other day and have re-listed it with more detail.

It was posted for $16k but needed some minor love and new rear tires if it was that car from Surrey.
Price was lowered to $12,950 firm.

If it is the same car, it does have 1 accident but not rebuilt so he claims. Ex Fla car imported in 06.

That seems like a good deal considering the expensive part (roll cage) is already installed...

underscore 05-29-2015 07:36 AM

^ you'd need more info on the roll bar to know if it's good enough for anything requiring a roll bar. Still, the rest of the mods on that car add up to a fair amount, the km would worry me though.

exactly what I was thinking, if its not welded to the frame the cage is shit and would never hold up to a good roll.

A typical MkV GTI of the same vintage with less mileage than this car should fetch for ~$10k - $12k. Note that this is for a full interior, regular street version of the car. IMO, manual or DSG shouldn't make too much of a difference in terms of vehicle price, but the DSG box would require more frequent servicing, and those DSG fluid changes are not cheap. Still, it's better than neglecting the DSG service and requiring some sort of DSG rebuild / transmission swap. Also, the DSG cars can't handle as much power/torque than the manual box either.

Note that the EA113 in this generation of GTI is known to burn oil. Consumption can vary quite a bit between different engines, with the less thirsty ones drinking <1L per 5000km or so, or as high as 3L+. Oil consumption closer to the low end of the spectrum is probably nothing you need to worry about -- these engines just seem to be built that way, but higher consumption amounts would obviously be a cause of concern. If you own this generation of the car, be sure to check your oil level and top up as necessary.

These engines are also known to be a bit hard on the spark plugs, so check those more frequently than you would otherwise with a different car.

IMO, the stock brakes are barely adequate for street use -- it is probably a combination of the brakes being too small, the car being too heavy, and the engine being too powerful. This car in the ad has upgraded front brakes, so that is definitely a plus. But it is difficult to say whether the brake upgrade is enough without having actually driven the car.

Last but not least, the seller has been trying to sell the car at least since June 2014. I have no opinion or speculations on whether this is indicative of anything. It is just a simple fact that I know, and is sharing with everyone else here in the thread.

I might regret posting this here, but I would love to see this thing come to Vancouver.

There is a car for sale on another forum (infinitiscene). This FX is owned by one of the most meticulous, and a pretty well respected member of our community, unfortunately life is just getting in the way, so he's getting rid of his beloved FX.

I will vouch for this car, the blood, sweat, tears and $$ invested in this thing is outrageous. The number of awards it's won is also a testament. The thing is listed for $15K on IS. Realistically he could easily get 18K for it from some kid, but he really wants to see this thing go to a good home. He just posted and said he is willing to go down to 13k for the right buyer, as well as include a few parts he has lying around for it.

Details here:

FS: Used 2003 Infiniti FX45 68,000 Miles - $15,000

The mileage is low, the mods are quality, and the price is fucking ridiculously low.

I am almost about to pick this thing up just for some of the parts on it, but I would much rather see the car live on.

PLEASE someone buy this thing before I ruin my life by picking it up.

EDIT: you can see the discussion others are having about the car, this is on a dedicated FX forum, there are countless people who already own an FX who want to pick this thing up just because it's such a good deal...

frozen 05-29-2015 01:45 PM

I don't know much about FX, but it's a 12 year old car with 100k km on it. Although it's heavily modified, it doesn't appeal really to anyone who aren't a FX fanatic, particularly considering how an SUV is modded to such extreme extent. Given the exchange rates and all the costs associated with importing, it doesn't make much sense at all for anyone outside the states to buy it.

I understand where you are coming from. And you are absolutely correct this car appeals to a very small minority of people.

However 13k with exchange put this car only marginally higher than local FX's of this age. Also the car may be twelve years old but it pretty much didn't change for 5 years after this model came out.

If your looking for an absolute show stopper of a car, this is it. And you can get it for basically the price of a base model civic.

With that said if someone wants a decently stock FX for fucking cheap. Buy this car, import it. And I'll give you 2k (and my stock panels) for the body kit, and 2k plus my stock interior for the interior of the car. The wheels can easily be parted for another 2k and I will gladly give you a set of the stock 20" FX wheels.

!Aznboi128 05-29-2015 03:47 PM

meme, you have a lot of love with the fx and I can relate. But a lot of us simply don't see it that way.
That being said for all the work that's done on the car, It's worth his asking price if he was local and if mods on a car actually adds value. So yea, it's a deal but just not for the mass market.

Heads up on this one:
2000 HONDA S2000

Met with him when he had first listed it in April. Reached a tentative deal. Contacted him the next day with details for PPI and he told me the car had just sold to a buyer at his asking. I wasn't happy about it since we had a deal; he blamed me for not offering his asking.

Now he has listed at 17.9k firm but I saw he reduced it to 16k firm yesterday, now it's back up to 17.9 firm.

Be leery of this seller. Older guy, found him a bit "off" I kind of suspected he might renege on the deal.
