He actually got a really good deal considering the hot market right now, the mileage and overall condition of the car and the current exchange rate. I had been looking for at least 10 months for a nice clean one and when they came up they sold in days; if not hours.

'97 with 10k miles = $41k USD
'97 with 59k miles = $28k USD
'01 NHBP with 40k miles = $19.5k USD (over a year ago when the dollar was par)
'01 PY with 25k miles = $25k USD (over a year ago as well)

The collector status of the ITR is among us whether we like it or not.

I'm pretty sure I've driven beside this guy a couple of times in Duncan. If it's the same car, it always seems to be clean and shiny and I only see it when it's nice out. Guy doesn't drive like an idiot.

He mentions he works up island and there aren't too many C5 Z06s in yellow around, so I think there's a good chance it's the same car.

I get that to do something like this you need to use automatic transmissions, but for the love of everything why would you do it with the shittiest transmissions known to man? 2 transmissions that require $4k rebuilds every 60-80k = fuck that.
