quite a few ap1 s2000 for sale on craigs actually. just under 15g for clean titles.

Common issues with the W124 include the vacuum controlled systems, and cracking wiring harnesses due to a transition to biodegradable wiring. With gasoline models, leaky head gaskets are also pretty common.

In terms of being a good deal - yes. I haven't seen ANY W124 locally for under $4k.

Yup, I did. Engine was replaced the body has 165,000KM on it. It's been in a unknown accident. He told me he didn't know anything about the accident. Also I asked if he had paper work for the engine swap and he never answered my question. Sounds to fishy for me... My search will go on.
