It's 2006?

flagella 09-09-2015 05:07 AM

It's a damn 10-year old Mercedes. That's why.

Drove normal straights, corners, braking, figure 8s in the parking lot. Soft top is in pretty bad condition however, owner only had it for a few months and doesn't know much about it.

The dent on the driver side has formed a huge patch of paint flake that has really dark and old surface rust in the rear quarter panel inside the door jam it's cringing to see.

The ad says its on one side but the passenger side has the same dent but smaller. You'd have to do some major metal work to both rear quarters. Doors are dented as well.

Rear bumper is not original, badly paint matched, misaligned. Fixed by private deal.

New rotors however, didn't spot a lot of rust in the suspension components.

The ad has been on and off Craigslist for some reason. Reasonable offer I'd say $9000 at most if you're a sucker for AP1. Considering the top should get replaced, and the bodywork needed.

That's not bad given the kms, but not exactly a steal. Look at ANY 10 year old 5 or 7 series or S/SL/CLS/CL class... they depreciate insanely fast.

And also because you aren't doing maintenance on a $35k car... It's a $100k car worth of maintenance. Same reason the e60 m5s are all around that price....mind you they're also time bombs

Seen this car too, Offered the previous 70-year old owner 10.5K, he say he would get back to me as he had high interest.

Also didn't look like it needed a new top, unless you want showroom condition.

But really 9k ? That's dreamer price, no wonder you cant find a S2000.

Well honestly, the car sounds like its going to cost you 5k at the very least. Cars like that I wouldn't even consider, no matter how good of a deal they are. For everything you see, there are 2 more problems you don't.

How did you come up with that number ? without seeing the car or going by those lousy photos.

What do you think welding and painting 2 quarter panels, a bumper and replacing the soft top will cost?

Why does the bumper have to be replaced ?
Why does the soft top have to be replaced ?

Have you seen the other door ? When I viewed the car I didn't even notice it until my buddy pointed it out, it's like 8x smaller.

As far as the body work Ive been quoted 2k, and that's not a micky mouse job.

Im talking to the seller right now, if he willing to take my offer, I will be taking the car to Honda for inspection.

The bumper doesn't have to be replaced, it needs to be painted as SWFK said, and just like I said.
The soft top needs to be replaced according to SWFK. I've seen his cars, and know what he wants in a car. If he says the soft top needs replacement, it likely does.
Oh BTW, the door needs to be fixed as well.

This car is 15 years old, not going to car shows, the soft top doesn't need to be replaced, Its not leaking there are no rips and looks in good shape, besides 2 small tears where you cant even see it (sort of by the bottom of corner windows), which a auto upholster can have patched no problem.

Also the bumper doesn't have to repainted just alignment (easy DIY), you cant notice the mismatched color unless your specifically focusing on it(from close). Yes the doors/panel have to be fixed, but the other side's damage is 6-8x smaller, and that's why this guy isn't asking 15k+.

Ive seen one of his cars online, it looks f**ken PRO but it isn't selling, in my opinion he has his prices wrong, like 9k for s2k ?? We wish.

^^^Let's just say westopher's standards are a bit different than yours and leave it at that. He would need to spend that to be happy and you would spend less and be happy. As you get older you just appreciate well sorted cars and will pay for it.

i thought youre supposed to grow out of the anal stage? as i get older i realize 10 year old cars i usually buy are never going to be perfect and its better to enjoy the car and accept the flaws than freak out over every little dent and imperfection.
