Looking at 55.4K CAD assuming you don't get a sizable discount - too much, there are better deals to be had locally IMO. (Plus whatever costs might arise to pass inspection + travel costs and your time to get the car, etc)

I didn't even touch excise tax or import fee lol...

195 CAD Import Fee
100 CAD A/C Excise Tax

09 M3 coupe has no green levy tax, examples of cars that would be subject to this tax can be found in the link below;

ETSL64 - Imposition of Excise Tax on Fuel-Inefficient Vehicles

I believe this only impacts vehicles 2007 and newer.

(IE: 2010 BMW M5 6MT is 4000$ CAD.)

Unless the dollar is 1:1 or close to it... very little incentive to cross border shop vehicles.

Honestly, 2009/2010 was the perfect storm.
Great exchange rate plus weak US economy.
Cars were sitting on the lots and people were forced to liquidate their toys to free up money.

I can't wait for the next one to hit. Fingers crossed.

Wow I didn't realize there was an extra tax on fuel-ineffecient vehicles 07 and newer. In 2008 I imported a 2002 Infiniti Q45 and faced all the fees/taxes. What started as $12k USD ended up costing me $16500 CAD.

Duty is 6.1% so even a little higher then your estimate.

Silver Arrow is definitely moving inventory to the US now. They have a fantastic collection. The owner pulled up to me at a light recently in a new Range and asked if I wanted to sell my car. I said no thanks.

Its only a part of their business. They are also buying and refurbishing Traveler's Inns to convert to affordable housing for the homeless.

You are correct, been a while since I last imported lol :s

Note for the noobs, if vehicle for import was manufactured in USA/CAN/MEX it will not be subject to duties.

Only thing I would mention about your numbers is that you included the PST/GST, which isn't quite fair, because you'd pay that in Canada too, and people don't usually add that in when looking at CAD prices.

Depends what province you're in #albertica lol

And IMO it's easier to duck taxes on local sales, cross the border with some bullshit about car being worth 1/2 price and your ass is going to secondary where they will actually search the truth and fuck your future crossings up for life.

Edit: obviously depends on private or dealer sale.

This isn't cheap, but I still think its a good buy.
If you are like me, and value having a car in a stupid colour, this is worth the premium. Already has a set of quality coilovers on it, which would be an obvious 2k lots of us would spend in the first week.

Honda S2000 Victoria City, Victoria

The Victoria red AP2 S2000 65kms rebuilt with bronze Rotas is now sold. Took a couple weeks but I'll guess it sold from around 18000 - 18500 Goes to show the demand for S2000 is strong. +1 for low mileage on this one. Hopefully the buyer had proper inspections done and understands there will not be much price appreciation.

This car belongs to me. I have had countless emails and texts. 2 buyers have flaked out on me. Last buyer came to see the car twice last week. He texted me yesterday saying he would come at 5:30 to pick it up, did not show up or return my text or calls.

All this talk of the exchange rate, what difficulty lies in selling our cars across the border? (other than of course things such as scheduling viewings etc.)

If everything checks out okay in terms of ICBC claims and a PPI, then it seems like a pretty decent deal.

Seems like a decent deal. That light bar up front is kinda ugly though. Would be alright if hidden behind a grill, but on its own it kinda ruins the aesthetic...

I didnt want to make a thread, so i thought i'd post it here. I need an opinion!

would you guys trade a 07 E93 328i Hardtop convertible w/ 95k kms for an 05 Alpine White E46 M3 w/ Red Interior 6speed w/ 150k kms?

both local bc cars no accidents, the only thing the m3 needs is a new set of rear tires.

i think it would be a good trade, but i've already owned 2 e46 m3's in the past lol. I was thinking of purchasing a bike for next summer instead!
Also after driving the E93, i can definitely appreciate the comfort of a newer car vs an older E46. Also the 05 is relatively higher mileage. This is what's making me hold back!

If you've already had 2 e46 M3's in the past, why not move on to consider something else? Cars from a certain company in Stuttgart would seem quite appropriate.
