1997 BMW 318is Coupe 5 Speed - Possible deal ?

westopher 10-23-2015 08:41 AM

Its not exactly cheap, but with old BMW ownership it always makes sense to look for a better example with some maintenance already addressed. That car looks nice, and cared for. Looks like a great way for a young car enthusiast to get started.

Winters, and roads that get damaged by those winters.

westopher 10-23-2015 09:17 AM

The biggest thing isn't the snow or even the salt, its how fucked the roads are. I seriously thought I was going to rip my fucking subframe off driving through edmonton even in the middle of summer. Expect the suspension life of a car in Alberta to be about 75% or less than it would here. First thing I would do is replace every bushing and shock mount on any used car.

That car was sold before the posting was made. I contacted them an hour after the ad was posted and he said it was sold. They wanted people to come in or call so they could push you to buy their CSX. That's Langley Hyundai for ya.

2008 Subaru Impreza WRX STi

High mileage but something to consider.

V8 RX-7 Drift Car - 1 of a kind

Rest of the car looks like poo but would look decent once complete

fliptuner 10-24-2015 11:03 AM

IIRC, that car was selling for 1/3 that a couple of years ago, plus the auto is a turnoff.

hud 91gt 10-24-2015 07:27 PM

Valid point. But if the starter spins on turning of the key, and the engine doesn't turn there is clearly a starter gear or issue with the flywheel which is what it sounds like in the description. If you can jump it down a hill and the car runs fine I wouldn't be afraid. Pulling the trans and putting in a new flywheel probably isn't very much fun for the maximum 2 grand he would get for that car in good running condition.

Would do a compression test for sure, and it most likely burns oil at that mileage.

nope, that's for the smaller (blue) numbers. The bigger white numbers (outside of pic) are kms and what the speedo is calibrated for
