Rare if the wiring harness has been replaced then it is a decent deal.

BTW the wheel are not "period correct" though. .they are from a CLK

I tell this to everyone who asks me about e39 m5s , dont buy 2000s.

godwin 07-01-2014 11:23 PM

If you want the exact interior it is easier to get it from the States. That's where I got my 03.

I think e39 in general are build sturdier than 3ers because the rear suspension setup is different but I don't think there are any particular difference between M5 and the rest other than the Drivetrain.. do pick up the Bentley tome though.. very useful especially when it comes to wiring.

If you are big on interior comfort.. get at least a 02.. at least Bluetooth and iPod are easier to install...and updated terminal resistor etc. Not to mention DVD head unit.

going to feel like this everytime I hop into the car if I do pick it up... :

There are loads of difference... wtf

engine
gearbox ratios
dsc
chassis
exterior
steering system
size brakes

learn more here, BMW M Registry - FAQ E39 M5

pft not much difference.. go buy a 540 then

godwin 07-02-2014 12:43 AM

Obviously you miss my reference about drive train.. which covers basically everything you had just listed. Parts maybe different but the connections are still the same.

M5 still have the same issues as a normal e39.. like pixel burn outs, AC still goes bananas when the PWM resistor goes bad, bad non lead solder on cold days etc.

I just posted a bit of my experience in the other thread.

Modified 2005 subaru legacy gt turbo 5 spd wagon set up for autocross

Good deal for someone mechanically inclined, and has time to part out everything. I'm sure if the wagon is fixed up, you could sell it for $10K alone; the aftermarket parts would sell for a few grand more.

GS8 07-02-2014 12:54 PM

A resto project for sure but my god if you do it right...

Went and saw this one in person, it has quite a few issues, diy'd deck install that doesn't look right, super loud exhaust, cluster says 55k, seller claims 127k, I estimate wear on steering wheel nearer to 150-200k. He wasn't really open to offers. the bodywork is not too bad though.

dared3vil0 07-02-2014 06:46 PM

IF cluster says one thing, seller says something else, can't verify odometer, i'd be extremely hesitant...

JDMDreams 07-02-2014 06:50 PM

No wonder it's been selling for such a long time

knight604 07-02-2014 06:58 PM

At least hes not claiming 55k .. LOL

So the seller is claiming higher mileage than what the cluster says?

excuse me....

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

That's rare but hillarious

godwin 07-02-2014 07:29 PM

Do you notice a red dot next to the mileage? If there is, that means he has tampered with the cluster. Or else he just replaced the whole cluster due to burnt pixels but don't want to pay for the recode.

The cluster reading can easily be set by software from Europe for that generation.

However the mileage can be checked / verify with Aircare. I don't see what's the big deal.

Steering wheel wear/seat wear could also be done with lots of city driving and children in the seat and neglecting of the interior. But yeah it seems weird that he's claiming 127k

never thought i'd see Robert selling an American classic. The guy really knows his cars and usually only sells unique, European and rare cars..

Loud exhaust and below, I suspect the cats are nearly done.. and they are expensive... and no, aftermarket ones won't do the job.

I take it he's a good guy to deal with?

Waiting for them to pick up another Porsche 928 so I can jump on it.

Ya Splendid has been around for years with some neat, clean cars.
