Okay, can we stop with the winter tire discussion now?

Porsche 911

What's a rebuilt motor for a 911 cost? Maybe order one up from Ed Pink Racing.

supafamous 11-01-2015 07:15 PM

2015 Porsche 911 GT3

A bargain at most any price.

fliptuner 11-01-2015 07:21 PM

That'd be awesome if the Xterra just has a busted trans cooler/line.

20k USD.
That car is worth half of asking price.
You'd be into a 166k 911, in the most boring (and not even original paint) colour, and the least desirable build years for 60k+ by the time all said and done.
Absolutely horrible buy.

Worst case pick up a trans for $600 and you have an Xterra for a grand.

jasonturbo 11-01-2015 07:50 PM

I don't know why you would buy a crate engine, just buy a cylinder kit for 5000$ USD... air cooled rebuilds are cheap.

Sure you're still going to have to source bearing, gaskets, oil pump, etc but you will still be way better off retaining matching #'s engine and spending less money vs crate engine.

You could have that back on the road for as little as 7K, but even then, it's too much money for that car IMO. (Assuming it isn't completely immaculate aside from the engine issue)

Can't guarantee, but this looks suspiciously like this GT3 at mission this summer... Can't be too many GT3's in that colour in Vancouver...

+1

The mid 70's 911s are the least desirable. The 2.7L engines are an odd duck with some inherent issues. Probably worse than 996 IMS stigma / problems. Some people love them, but at $35K, there are at least a handful of other options on the market that are a better buy (i.e. M3, M5, late 996 / early 997 etc.)

flagella 11-02-2015 04:47 AM

Can someone remind me if GT3 is even available in manual anymore? One of the biggest reasons GT3 had been my dream car was because they still came in pure stick shift, not some pdk shit. But IIRC, even GT3 has gone down that route now.

westopher 11-02-2015 05:16 AM

It's not, however Porsche has confirmed that it will come with a manual option again starting in the 2017 run

bcuzracecarz 11-02-2015 08:02 AM

^^^ yup, was very excited when I read that, and "want to continue giving the enthusiast the option for 3 pedals". Great news Porsche

white rocket 11-02-2015 08:49 AM

A dealer taking one of it's cars to a track day is nothing new. I'd wager that I've seen a dealer car at pretty much every track day I've been to.

Spoiler!
