From what I've been reading on MB World, true 300 CE AMGs are very very rare. Most just have AMG bits on them. Paperwork would be best to ask for. If he doesn't have any, then assume it's a replica and buy it at what is still a good price for a timeless design.

i.e. Genuine AMG kit is polyurethane where replicas are fiberglass

The car itself is only fun to cruise in, if you compare it to a e30. The e30 is definitely more of a drivers car.

Having said that the Mercedes is just gorgeous, it's a steal at that price. Considering the wheels, if authentic oz, are worth 3grand to the right buyer. Too be fair, AMG was not an in house tuner of Mercedes at that point. A real and replica one is about the same, since engine wise they were the same. The only exception would be the AMG hammer with the v12. If I could sell the GN I'd jump on this.

I had a 2000 3.5 RL. Really enjoyed the car and still miss it. Mine was dark blue and had 129k and sold it stock for $10k 3 years ago. They are not holding their value. There isn't a big market for big body sedans though as many buyers want fuel economy.
