Lol that dealership. They have a hail damaged estoril e36 m3 that they are trying to sell as a "collector car" because its low milage, for 30k. I almost bought it in its beat up state but we couldn't come to terms on a price. They wanted 13.5, I was willing to do around 11k due to all the work it needed. They called me like 5x to see if I still wanted it. When I asked how much they would do they kept telling me 13.5k. I couldn't figure out why they kept calling me.

My guess would be because they are trying to sell a car and they know you were the last interested person.

...just a guess

Well I'd probably fucking call them if I was interested on upping my offer don't you think? Someone isn't going to call me and tell me the exact same number I turned down and I'll suddenly be enticed by it. Never mind the 3rd through 5th time.

Granville Island Auto always carried overpriced cars, and it looks like a Kingsway dealer nonetheless.

It's unfortunately how dealerships operate, call until the customer buy's or dies (proverbially, not literally)

It was obviously a weak, probably new salersperson to just call back and say "herr derrr what do I need to do to earn your business". Guy was probably new and has his boss screaming at him to follow up.

Not that it's right to call you 5 times, just letting you know why.

Reminds me of when I made the mistake of going to a Ford dealer to test drive a traded in Matrix they had. I told them from the get go that we weren't going to be buying anything that day but they kept going on with "what can we do to get you in this car today" for about an hour after. Luckily I had set it up over email and not by phone as they emailed me 4-5 times after asking if I was interested in it at their massively inflated price.

That's his job. To get you to buy the car. If you take up the time of a commission sales person, who effectively was working for free when he was with you- expect them to ask you to purchase the product or service you expressed interest in. He didn't go about it the right way, really, but that's the general idea. It's a tough job.

underscore 03-06-2016 09:26 PM

Fair enough, but repeatedly trying to get someone to buy a car on the spot when they've told you from the get go that they will not be buying anything that day is just stupid. Being annoying and completely ignoring what the potential buyer is telling you will never net a sale.

I know, it's not the right way to do it for sure, and again, you didn't meet a good salesman, however keep in mind that 99% of people who walk through the door say that, ~20-30% drive out in a new car.

Early, manual ctsv's are getting hard to come by, locally. Seems a bit on the high side but if they getting more scarce, I guess its understandable.
